BB2 Midi CC Question

I have just purchased a BB2 upgrading from BB1(Owned for 8 Years)

Because I am a keyboard player, I have always used Ableton live to trigger transitions, fills, etc in Beat Buddy. (I have enough pedals on the floor already)

All the midi CC’s work with BB2 with the exception of Pause/Unpause.

I use CC 111 which worked fine on BB1 but with BB2 it works but, on the screen, it turns off the song and then starts the song again. (Without intro) It is working like a stop/start command, which are completely different CC numbers. (CC115 and CC114)

The effect is the same as pause/unpause but a bit disconcerting seeing the screen showing the song as stopped.

Wondered if anyone else had noticed this behaviour and come up with a solution. Thanks.

Hey there,

What you may be experiencing is that in BB1, we used to have a setting that allowed you to “mute pause”, which would effectively mute the drums without restarting playback

The BeatBuddy 2, however, has its own mute command and behavior now, and it is separate from the pause behavior.

CC# Command Value Behavior
CC:123 Mute/Unmute Mute stops the audio from playing back without affecting the playback, so you can unmute immediately at any time without restarting the song.
Unmute 0 Unmutes the playback
Mute 1-127 Mutes the playback

Find all Singular Sound MIDI Commands here. Use the tabs to choose which unit’s commands are showing.

Thank you for the question, hopefully this is the solution

Hi Brennan Thank you for the information about using Mute/Unmute.

Unfortunately, when I came to set it up, I received the message from Ableton that:

Why can’t I edit the values of MIDI CC numbers 120-127 in clip envelopes?

These CC numbers are reserved for specific functions within Live and are not available in the MIDI Ctrl chooser.

So, I will have to stay with Pause/unpause unless you have any other way to achieve this for BB2 with Ableton Live 12.
