MIDI Connectivity issues

Seems like folks here don’t often appear to have connectivity issues, but I sure do. I use an ipad 2 to view lyrics (never a problem), and send MIDI program changes to my BeatBuddy. The program (Onsong) faithfully sends the program changes, but I have to unplug/replug my MIDI interface, reboot the ipad and the Beat Buddy, and various other things to get the MIDI program change function to “stick.” Can anyone advise?

2021 Apple 10.2-inch iPad (Wi-Fi, 64GB) iPad OS 15.7
Roland UM-ONE-MK2 MIDI interface
BeatBuddy (latest OS)

most common problem, I think, seems to be the midi cable that goes into the BB, mine also has a broken wire inside. And I hadn’t used it that often.
