Cannot find any info about bluetooth: is it able to receive midi over bluetooth, let’s say, from DAW, and then transmit to all the devices connected to MIDI Maestro?
You’re selling rockets. I’m still (patiently) waiting for the iOS version…
Just what I thought as well - where are you with a complete set of presets for the standard BeatBuddy functions - still only able to program the very basic functions - still not able to use the MM exclusively with the BB…
The software now lets you build in all the commands, but, last I checked, there were a couple of things yet to do. Big ones on my list are differentiating between Press and Release, and being able to import/export settings and complete banks of patches. As I understand it (and I hope @iajrz will jump in if I’m wrong), Press/Release is definitely on the radar and import/export is being considered as well. I had a few others I wanted to see, but those are the big ones. Press/Release, in particular, would allow me to rack my entire system and run it from a pair of MIDI Maestros.
Disclaimer: I have been updating my MM regularly – Irving seems to be following an agile approach and giving us incremental builds to play with – but I haven’t updated it in maybe two weeks, so these might already be implemented.
@iajrz, maybe we could start a locked thread (i.e., only you can update it) with a list of updates per release? Or maybe post a spreadsheet here that you update regularly? I hate to ask you for more work, because it’s pretty obvious you’re working your butt off given how far the software has come in a few short months, but a little transparency like this would give me some fantastic “Woo-hoo!” moments – not to mention the opportunity to try to break stuff! – when my requests find their way into your workstream.
I don’t have the Maestro near me, but I thought it allowed press vs release to be set per switch per page, but maybe I’m misremembering.
I just read back, and, according to @iajrz, you are entirely correct. I was thinking about double-tap when I was trying to remember the piece I thought was missing.
So, @iajrz, what else is under consideration for the Bluetooth on the MM? Maybe MIDI over BT? Either to control the BB (or Aeros) wirelessly remotely, or even to be able to send the same MIDI events the BB (and, I assume, the Aeros) sends so I can run my DMX lights with one less cable?
I ask no commitments, only what’s on your radar to look at.
Thanks!
This is actually in progress; we’re having some trouble with MIDI BLE commands though, so any confirmation that it works would help.
That button enables MIDI over bluetooth in the MM for up to 4 messages per button state. Please try it.
Please could you check if it is working? Really good news if so
Please can you specify if MIDI over bluetooth function is only able to send MIDI messages or to receive them too?
@iajrzand @mousepunk, I’ll check it tonight (or maybe at lunch). Need to find a BLE–to-MIDI receiver…
Anyone else looking for this functionality? Now would be a good time to jump in!
I am now considering buying a controller for HX Stomp and H9, trying to choose between Morningstar Engineering MC6 and MIDI Maestro. I think receiving MIDI over Bluetooth would be a killer feature of MM! Controlling the whole pedalboard by DAW without a MIDI cable is a dream
What would you use as the MIDI receiver? Or does the HX include a Bluetooth-as-a-receiver function?
Just as an FYI,
In my travels across the web, I’ve found several mentions of MIDI-BT (but not BLE) latency and the last couple of posts have piqued my interest. Although I’m not presently in the market for a solution (to a problem that I don’t yet have), something that I recently came across https://www.cme-pro.com/how-to-connect-two-midi-hardware-via-wireless-bluetooth-midi/ got my attention as promising.
I hope MIDI Maestro can receive MIDI from DAW on my laptop (Macbook) and then trnsmit it through MIDI wires to HX Stomp and Eventide H9?
Fantastic – thanks! I’ll have a look! I also have the original Hughes & Kettner MIDI receiver for the Grandmeister, I’m hoping I will be able to use that, but, if I’m honest, I haven’t really thought this through.
Just to clarify this, I believe you want the MM to be able to receive midi over Bluetooth from your Mac, and then allow its midi out port to function as a midi-through, passing the midi commands from your Mac to your other 2 devices on separate midi channels. Is that correct?
Correct. But if MM would receive MIDI from MAC and react itself controlling connected pedals – is also acceptable.
Ok. I can’t comment on how the Android app for MM has been proceeding, and as yet, there is no iOS app. But, at release, the MM was not set up to send messages on separate channels. Can anyone comment on whether this been implemented in the Android app? The Morningstar can send messages on multiple channels. I have not tried it as a midi through device, but there isn’t any reason that it could not be hooked up to a Yamaha BT01 to receive Bluetooth midi.
