MIDI receiving but not sending from BeatBuddy (OnSong related)

Here’s the setup: BB -> MIDI Sync Cable -> Yamaha MD-BT01
BT MIDI signal connected to OnSong app on iPad

Here’s the issue: BeatBuddy is receiving signals from OnSong, but OnSong is not receiving signals from BeatBuddy. When I attempt to use the MIDI Triggers screen from OnSong, nothing is being received from the BeatBuddy. I can send commands to the BeatBuddy with no issues.

Here are my settings on the BB:
MIDI-In
MIDI Channel Number - All (OMNI)
Control Change - Enable
MIDI-Out
Output Type - MIDI-OUT
Channel - Channel 1
Sync - Disable
Start - Intro
Stop - Pause and End
Notes - Disable
Next Part - Disable
Time Signature - Enable

If you need any setting from OnSong, please let me know. Thank you.

Check your midi channel settings in OnSong. Make sure your midi in for OnSong is channel 1. Also what messages are you attempting to send from the BB? Are those message types supported by the B.B. firmware? (see Beat Buddy midi manual)

I’m having this problem as well. I went through the video to set things up.

I get nothing from the BeatBuddy. Onsong does set the tempo okay.

I’ve check with midiwrench and the BeatBuddy is sending stop and start, but onsong is not seeing it.

You don’t indicate what you are using to get Onsong and the BB talking to one another. I use the Yamaha BT01. I’ll assume you bought the OnSong midi upgrade, because without it, they won’t interface. I use an iRig BlueBloard to scroll lyrics. These are my settings:

  1. Make sure Bluebard app is running and Blueboard is connected.
  2. Beat Budd Settings as follows

Main Pedal> Midi Settings

Midi In> System Real Time> Syncs, Start, Stop, all Enabled
Midi Channel Number >All
Note On> Disabled
Control Change> Enable All

Midi Out>

Output Type> Midi Merge
Channel>5 (you can pick what works for you)
Sync>While playing
Start>Intro
Stop> Pause and End
Notes>Disable
Next Part>Disable
Time Sig>Enable
Cue Fill Period>Next Measure (my peference)

Footswitch> 1st stopped>song back
1st playing>Outro Fill
2nd stopped>Song advance
2nd playing>pause/unpause

3)OnSong Settings

Gear>Editors>Midi>Wrench>Sources>Connect bluetooth, then activate BT01
Gear>Editors>Midi: Program Change 4 on Channel 1 Scroll Up
Program Change 5 on Channel 1 Scroll Down

Gear>Editors>Midi>Wrench
Midi enable on
Virtual midi on
Tempo>Ch. 5

For commication I’m using:

Yamaha Wireless MD-BT01 5-PIN DIN MIDI Adapter

I Change all the beatbuddy setting as listed here. Reconnected an now it seems to work (also in the mean time my ipad got updated - not sure if that had any affect)

Thanks
Phil

My settings that are working

Main Pedal> Midi Settings

Midi In> System Real Time> Syncs, Start, Stop, all Enabled
Midi Channel Number >All
Note On> Disabled
Control Change> Enable All

Midi Out>

Output Type> Midi Merge
Channel>1
Sync>While playing
Start>Intro
Stop> Pause and End
Notes>Disable
Next Part>Disable
Time Sig>Enable
Cue Fill Period>Next Measure (I don’t see this option)

If you don’t see
Next Measure as a Cue Fill Period option, you are probably not running the most up to date B.B. firmware. It’s version 2.04.

I updated the software so now I’m sure I’m on 2.04, but still no ‘Cue Fill Period’, but it’s all working okay do I’m happy

Thanks
Glenn

It sounds like you might not have scrolled downwards far enough within the Main Pedal menu. You should see Cue Fill Period as the 8th entry under Main Pedal.

I think I may have wrongly implied that it was a midi setting.

Okay I see it now. Thanks
