I have just inherited a full set: BeatBuddy(1) with foot switch, AEROS(gold) and MIDI MAESTRO(gold) The AEROS and MAESTRO were NIB. The BeatBuddy seems to have been barely used.
I have watched a vast amount of YouTube videos, read through the manuals a few times and started reading through these forums.
I have the appropriate MIDI and instrument cables; but before I plug in and start learning the basics; I thought to ask for some guidance:
Since this was bought a year or two ago, I assume these units have never been updated with new versions of software. Should I resolve this issue first? And, which computer interfaces and phone apps are critical to engage this complete set-up from the beginning?
Thank you.
I can only speak about the BeatBuddy. Yes, you should update the firmware. All you need is to be able to save the firmware files to the BB SD card. A card reader on your computer is sufficient.

You’ll save yourself a lot of issues if you update the firmware on all of your devices before you start using them.
Even though you’ve read the manuals, you should also browse the user manuals on the details for updating the firmware on all of your devices.
You are strongly encouraged to use the BBMO which is a web app that unfortunately does not presently work on the macOS Safari so if you use a Mac, use MS Edge or a Chromium-based browser (Google Chrome, Vivaldi, Dia or Opera).
- for the Aeros, log on to your WiFi on the pedal; make sure you have a good WiFi connection and update the Aeros using WiFi. If that doesn’t work, you can use an SD card (SDHC 4-32Gb, Class 10; no need to format a new card as it comes ready to use). You can follow the forum instructions on how to update using an SD card.
- for the Maestro, you will use your cell phone or iPad (Android or iPhone) by downloading the Singular Sound MIDI Maestro app from the appropriate store. If you’re using an iPhone, you might want to browse the forum for issues related to iOS 24.x
Don’t hesitate to ask the forum when you have questions or you can email Support, support@singularsound.com.

I recommend the following setup:
MIDI:
MIDI Maestro MIDI OUT → BeatBuddy MIDI IN → BeatBuddy MIDI OUT → Aeros MIDI IN → Aeros MIDI OUT to your pedalboard or other MIDI devices if needed.
Audio:
Instrument → pedalboard → Aeros IN → Aeros OUT → BeatBuddy IN → BeatBuddy OUT → full-range speakers or mixer.
We recommend using TS jack cables with a single ring on the metal connector for audio connections.
I recommend updating the firmware to the latest version on all units. You can find the instructions using the link below: https://singularsound.com/firmware
Additionally, I recommend checking out this video, which shows how the BeatBuddy and Aeros work together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvAiCoIxXa0
For editing your BeatBuddy content, we recommend using the BeatBuddy Manager Online. You can find all relevant manuals and links on our support page: Support
