Two thumbs up for the development team.

Suit yourself.

@DavidE -

Yes, the beta version was indeed developed by Daefecator, who happens to be a volunteer who contributes a lot to the company. We were considering not releasing the beta version, and instead wait for the final version to come out before we release the Mac software, but we decided to release it anyway. The reason for this is that we recognize that the development of the final version of the software is taking longer than we expected, and even though the current version of the software is not perfect, it is functional, and the bugs that need to be fixed are primarily aesthetic in nature, which is not something that prevents one from using the software successfully. We made a judgement call, and we decided that releasing a functional version of the Mac version would be the best thing we can do for our Mac user base, given the circumstances.

Before we released it we had a few of our own beta testers use it on their own computers to confirm for us that it is functional and safe. It has been already almost two weeks since the release of the Mac version, and we have not received even one report from anybody relating to a potentially unsafe feature in it. The ā€˜sourceā€™, by the way, is us (i.e. Singular Sound). If you are willing to trust us enough to not release a potentially harmful program, then you can trust ā€œthe sourceā€. Each BeatBuddy or software update that we plan to release gets tested by our own team of beta testers (not the general public) and in the majority of the cases, by us personally as well, before it is released.

Based on the aforementioned information, you can install it on your computer and feel completely safe about any potential security ā€œrisksā€, despite your personal issues with the developer.

Our statement of the Mac software being a top priority was not false, we are working on it, and we have been this entire time. We have a programming team that develops the software for us, and instead of waiting for them to finish at a later date, Daefecator has volunteered to help expedite the process. In other words, the software would have been delayed even longer had Daef not stepped in and volunteered. You can thank him for that.

We are putting forth our best efforts to have the final version released. Until that happens, you have a fully functional Mac version of the software available to you. We would not risk releasing a software that is not stable enough to be used by the general public, and there is absolutely 0% chance that weā€™d release something that is potentially harmful. You can take our word for that.

Thanks you for the new information. I may get Brave and check it out.

Still waiting on my COSM CDā€¦

Just to add - I would not call Daefecator just an ā€œend userā€ who has just ā€œput the Mac version togetherā€. Daef is a lead software developer and as such he knows what he is doing and taking about.
We all I think want the BeatBuddy to be a success, unfortunately Software development is not cheap and usually this needs to be outsourced as well. The price of the ongoing development needs to be offset agaist the price of the BeatBuddy. If you donā€™t sell enough BBā€™s you canā€™t continue the development of the software or product so a balance needs to be struck between selling more units and the development of the software or product.

Iā€™m trusting, but this was disconcerting:
Google Drive canā€™t scan this file for viruses.

BBWorkspace.zip (333M) exceeds the maximum size that Google can scan. Would you still like to download this file?

I have a tendency to put a ā€œnot_virusā€ as the file name. Some good guy while I was in school told me that when you put that into the filename, it makes it virus free, you donā€™t even need to run antivirus software. Looks like this time I made a fatal mistake, and I should have named that file ā€œBBWorkspace.not_virus.zipā€. That way I could help Google identify there are no viruses inside.

How did you like my trolling attempt in the previous paragraph? I am sorry if I am intentionally misleading someone, but it was simply too attractive to bite

By the way, Google is absolutely correct in warning you there could be viruses. You can never trust a fart, not even saying about the software! Even when you are explicitly said it is safe, still treat it as unsafe! Beta or not, it still can have bugs. Thatā€™s just the nature of life nowadays. Either way, itā€™s your computer and your decision what to trust to and what not. To me itā€™s not a big deal when my Windows is totally deteriorated (or I caught some deadly virus unknown to my anti-virus system) to simply reinstall Windows. Thatā€™s why I sometimes donā€™t even think twice before I go to shady porn sites or click untrusted links.

But for the last seven or so years I have seen the anti-virus software I use to be pretty good with securing me from external threats. And I am simply too lazy to append my own threats like keyloggers or trojans to the code myself. Anyways, itā€™s up to you to decide

ā€¦And finally, no, I am not advertising my anti-virus software this time. Enough for me that I advertise Boomerang III left and right here on the forum, and, as far as I know, they didnā€™t even pay to either me or Singular Sound team for that!

I think it is amazing that such a complex product went from idea to a functional unit in such a short time. I also voluntarily pre-ordered knowing it would be first run and my primary hope that it wasnā€™t going to be a static product. The more I use it the more I am finding it is better than other hardware drum boxes once programmed as a compact hands free drum machine. Iā€™ve had many drum boxes over the years, they ALL need beat programming and if nothing else I appreciate real drummers more for the experience. Although plenty of computer based drum options exist that are more like full sequencers at the moment, aside from needing to also drag a $2K Mac laptop to a gig, none are to be trusted live running with a PC OS and midi rig or are able to be operated remotely with only a foot switch which BB has nailed the basics on.

There are current limitations but it is extremely encouraging that the BB team didnā€™t cash in and run and that other volunteers are not only active on this forum daily but are all taking suggestions to other vendors such as Pigtronix to work on tweaks to increase compatibility. Great job!

Agreed Norbert - BB is a very impressive and unique tool. I think the small handful of complaints on here owes to that uniqueness. (Example: the one gentleman who is disappointed with it because he plays jazz and feels it doesnā€™t have enough of his genre - itā€™s got as much jazz, funk, salsa, merengue, hip hop, etc as you load into it.)

Itā€™s a bit of a misnomer even to call BB a ā€˜drum machine.ā€™ True, it is literally a machine that produces drum sounds, but it takes such a different approach from other devices weā€™ve come to call drum machines (the 808ā€™s et al). I really like that it is a performance tool and relies on the computer to be the creation tool. I contend thatā€™s a huge advantage rather than a weakness: It plays its role brilliantly and allows us to use the best midi creation and editing tools for what they do best. I understand that ā€˜drum machineā€™ is what youā€™d have to call it from a marketing standpoint. ā€œSong part-based midi drum triggering and performance deviceā€ or whatever else probably isnā€™t the best description to drive interest and sales.

I also understand the market need to make the cataloging ā€˜managerā€™ software a bit more intuitive. Honestly though, I donā€™t care much. Even in its current state (on Windows, anyway), it does what it needs to do. I actually hope SS does not expand it to include midi editing capability as those of us who use midi drums a bit already have a range of mature tools. I hope the developers focus on making the software a bit easier for less technical musicians to understand and not waste cycles on making it into a second-rate midi editing tool. Granted, I expect Iā€™m in the minority there.

But yeah - two thumbs up for the development team. Two more for Psalm40 and Daefecator for their efforts here.

ā€¦That amazing feeling when you realize those two fingers are actually thumbs and not middle ones!

Well, yeah, BeatBuddy shouldnā€™t get staled. I promise I personally will do my best for it not to!

I would like to see more futcoins content and resources on the Web pageā€¦ and regular feature growth, with a commitment to customer service and satisfaction. If they can do all thatā€¦ they will be rich.
