Adding and re-naming playlists & songs - Sync isn't working

I am having the hardest time doing the simplest thing. I want a playlist I can rename, with songs I can rename so, you know, when I’m staring down at this thing, I can actually have a custom song playlist (note - I have now ordered the footswitch, but that doesn’t solve this BBMO issue).

I have read and re-read the online manual for BBMO and cannot get the BBMO to sync to the BeatBuddy pedal itself. I have a brand new 2025 iMac (M4) running Sequoia 15.5. This iMac does not have an SD reader in the back (like my 2021 Intel iMac does) so the BeatBuddy is connected via USB (powered hub). All I want to do is create a custom playlist, rename it, throw songs into the playlist and rename those and have it show up on the BeatBuddy. I am sensing that there are multiple export/import steps required for this and quite frankly, I feel like you have made the file folder hierarchy, layout and functionality a bit confusing. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through to achieve a very simple thing.

I attempted this two ways - but first, I imported all the Songs and Drum sets loaded from “BeatBuddy Default Content 2.1 - Project" - they’re all there.

  1. I took a song (Country 6- Str 8), matched BPM to what was listed in Songmatcher (Petty, You Don’t Know How It Feels - which, in this instance, is kind of an ironic song choice), exported it to desktop as a .sng file. Re-named it and re-imported it. It showed up as the 9th song after the 8 defaults (I hit Cancel instead of enter so it wouldn’t blow away the Country 6- Str 8 in position 8). Created a playlist, was able to rename that, imported the Petty .sng and it’s there, named “You Don’t Know How It Feels”. I hit “Save Project”, then “Sync to SD Card” (again, lacking a port, the SD card is in the BeatBuddy connected to the iMac via USB) and synced to the “BeatBuddy Default Content 2.1 - Project” folder. I get a “tuning up my air guitar” progress bar. Once completed (very fast), I ejected the “NO NAME” icon, unplugged the Beat Buddy. Nothing is on the beat buddy. I can create a playlist and put Country 6- Str 8 in that playlist and can see that. But I just can’t get the renamed playlist or song renamed. What am I doing wrong here? Is this a folder issue that I’m not creating properly?

  2. With the “Songs” button selected upper left, I tried creating a new folder - yep, no problem. Renamed that folder Tom Petty, took the renamed “You Don’t Know How It Feels”.sng and imported that, it pulls up in the BPM I set it for (72) with the correct title. Save to Project, then Sync to SD. Nothing shows up on the BeatBuddy.

I need some help here. What part of the process am I not getting?

Get an SD card reader (less than $15 from Walmart.) Then using BBMO you can sync to the card and then put the card in your BB.

I agree with Phil_Flood about using an external USB media reader. It’s probably going to be your best solution.

After reading your post again and while you wait for your external media reader , you might want to try connecting your pedal directly to a Mac USB port instead of going thru a powered hub to see if that helps with your sync issue. Some, but not all, hubs are finicky with their USB connections.

Phil & persist - perfect suggestions. Purchased an Acer SD reader, went straight into the back of the computer, eventually worked perfectly.

I did have to fumble around a bit. Saw someone’s advice on here to purchase a larger Series 10 SD card so I grabbed a 16gb SanDisk. Man did that come in handy. For some reason, when syncing the original SD card, I got some “invalid SD card” messages on the BeatBuddy. It was putting two extra folders in there, not sure why. Used DiskUtility to wipe the original SD, downloaded the BeatBuddy Default Content (SD backup) zip (that link is very helpful) and reloaded. Worked fine. It’s now the backup, the 16gb is the master.

Created a playlist, named it, had to do some song export two-steps but that ultimately worked. Thank you both. Very helpful in getting this up and running.
