How do I do this? Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you so much!! I’m brand new so I have lots of questions. And yes I’ve read the manual but I’m still having trouble.
There are some excellent tutorial videos out there from people who use different types of equipment with The beat buddy. I would definitely look there.
I’m assuming you want to feed the midi clock from BB to your delay pedal. For that you need the BB breakout cable and then from BB midi out a five pin midi cable to delay midi in port
And that’s it. Then you might need to adjust the delay settings e.g. does it use quarter notes or what
Yeah I know to search YouTube, but this specific question I thought I’d ask here. You know…because it’s the product’s website and everything.
Awesome thank you so much!! But I guess I can find a BB breakout cable. I assume it’s on the website. Am I correct? But when you say “five pin midi cable to delay midi in port” I’m lost. At your convenience can you post a picture of this cable? Thank you! This is the first legitimate response I’ve received. Again, I’m using that RC-30 above so I’m waiting with bated breath. If I can get those two to work together, that’ll be great. Thanks!!
Here is the breakout cable and here is the 5 pin midi cable
Just make sure the delay pedal has the same five pin midi port that matches the cable
I appreciate this but I just want to verify and clarify. You sound so sure and I’m about to purchase these. Because I’d really love my RC-30 (looping pedal) to connect with my BB. How can that be done with these two cords before I purchase? Thanks!!
Nope… the RC-30 has no MIDI capability. Most of the newer BOSS loopers have MIDI via an 1/8 TRS jack, but the RC-30 has neither the 1/8" TRS jack nor 5 pin DIN connection. If you need to sync with the BeatBuddy you’d need to upgrade to a newer looper fitted with MIDI. My Boss RC-500 plays well with the BeatBuddy via MIDI.
Thank you so much!! I’m having trouble getting straight answers for whatever reason. But what cords do you use? Could you show me? Thanks! Also is that really the big difference between yours and mine (rc30)?
For Boss loopers that use the 1/8" TRS jack for MIDI, a ‘Type A’ MIDI cable is needed. A ‘Type B’ is wired differently and will not work. I bought a ‘Type A’ cable from Sweetwater that works. Using the BB breakout cable you need a standard male to male MIDI cable like you’ve shown in your post above to connect the breakout cable to the ‘Type A’ cable. There may be ‘Type A’ cables that have a 5 pin male DIN connector that would connect directly to the breakout cable, but may be more expensive than the Sweetwater option.
These aren’t expensive. Buy a couple.

Personally I can say that I don’t know everything and I don’t have the time and energy to dig into everything But I love the BB and I’m hoping that saying things out loud people get things going forward
If we check a bit what information was stated at what point:
- Title: Adding Boss RC-30 delay pedal
At this point we only know that you want to use RC-30.
- Image (and the forum section)
We can deduce that you want to use it with BB. But we don’t know how you want to use it.
My assumption was the most likely option, but it could have been also how to feed the guitar signal through both pedals into amp etc. Or how to record the drums as part of the loop and then record guitar on top of that
I’m sorry that my assumption gave you false impression that I knew something about RC-30.
But I’d like to think that you got your true solution partially thanks to the information that we learned through the conversation. Information about your needs, what kind of midi cables and ports etc
It’s also possible that e.g. @MarkF48 could have given you the correct answer without me stating my assumptions or anything. In that case my replies were not useful - perhaps they were even harmful
At this point I could ask you @tagnew, what do you want to achieve with BB and a looper/delay pedal? Do you want millisecond perfection quality for studio or live performance? Or do you just want to have fun at home?
If it’s the latter then maybe midi clock is not needed. You just need to test if you can have fun without it
I would like a good looping pedal that works really well with the BB. But I have other questions. First of all I’m only using a Spark II amp. What pedal can I use with the Spark II amp that is compatible with the BB and also allows me to change the preset on the looper without it affecting all other subsequent loops. My xsonic ulooper does this but it’s not compatible with the BB. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I personally don’t think it can be done. LOL.
If the Aeros looper doesn’t support your use case then there is a high chance no looper supports it
Just note that my only looper is within HX Stomp so I don’t know much about loopers
Yes the Aeros looks incredible and it syncs flawlessly with the BB. I will definitely get one soon. I realize that my amp is really the issue. I have a Spark II and realize it’s limiting to do all this with the BB and Aeros. But…I need to get a new amp anyway. I like my Sparks but they’re little practice amps and I need something else. From what I understand I need an amp with the ‘effects loop’ or ‘send or receive’ function evidently. Sorry if I sound ignorant I’m not too sure about all this, but getting an amp with this will allow me to use the BB , Aeros, and also keep previous loops sounding the same when I switch presets. If I’m wrong on all this maybe someone will chime in. But I really love that Aeros, omg.
Have you checked HX Stomp or Helix from Line6?
They have amp simulations and effects loops and you can plug it directly to mixer/PA
I like my HX Stomp I sometimes use it to add effects to BB as well
no, but it looks cool too. That’s the thing, too many choices. But I think my BB and the Aeros will make a good marriage.
