Aeros not syncing tempo or time signature from Beat Buddy

I’m new to midi and confess find it really hard. I really would appreciate any input.

So…
I have Aeros slaved to my Beat Buddy.
It is basically working:

  • If I start the beat buddy playing, then, after the Intro has run, the Song part will start recording;
  • Aeros will switch song part and start recording the second part if I change part on the beat buddy;
  • If I dial in a tempo change on the beat buddy while it is playing then Aeros will slow down or speed up its playback accordingly.

So its basically working…
BUT
Neither Tempo nor Time Signature are correct in Aeros when compared to the song on the buddy.

When I set up a new song in Aeros and before I start the Buddy, the Aeros song summary window displays:

  • Tempo: N/A and Time Sig: Auto
    After I start the Buddy and stop it then these will be populated in the Aeros window but will not be correct: the tempo will be out and the Time Sig will always be 4/4 regardless of the time sig of the beat the Buddy was playing when the Aeros recording was commenced by the Buddy play start.

If the time signature of the beat buddy song is 4/4 then Aeros keeps in tempo i.e. in that the bars tracking on the Aero align with the beat on the Buddy but the displayed tempo values on the devices don’t match each other.

BUT if the song on the Buddy is not in 4/4 then Aeros gets all over the place as it apparently thinks the song is in 4/4.

I have noticed this error is displayed:

When I select the beat I want to play on the Buddy I am immediately presented with an error on the Aeros. Let’s say I select “Rock: Rock 5 Jungle Toms” on the Buddy . I will see the following error pop up and quickly fade away on the Aeros screen im on:

“Song with MSB: 20 and PC:4 not found”

If I choose a different beat on the Buddy, then I will get the same error but the codes will be different: Eg “Song with MSB: 19 and PC:0 not found” .
This seems to be corresponding with the bank of songs and song selection in that bank I selected on the Buddy.

And I have no idea how to solve this issue. In the Buddy’s Main Audio settings MIDI song selection is set as Default. (I tried changing this to Aeros Mode and that made no difference…)

I have no idea whether the Tempo and Time signature mismatch is related to this song selection error issue or not?

Help please if you can? I have no idea what to do to get this working…

Thanks Daniel!

I will paste your response here for others as it was very helpful:

Hi Andy,

Thank you for reaching out!

If the tempo shows N/A, your Aeros is likely in Auto-quantized or Freeform mode — switch it to Quantized and it will work as expected.

For the time signature, you need to set it manually in the Aeros settings, since it does not sync automatically from the BeatBuddy.

The message that pops up means the BeatBuddy is in Aeros mode — it sends a signal to the Aeros whenever you open a song. You can use this to have the Aeros open a matching song automatically, or disable it by resetting both devices to default settings or navigate to: Settings > Main Pedal > MIDI Settings > MIDI OUT > Song/Folder Select and choose Default Mode.

I recommend first updating both the BeatBuddy and Aeros to the latest firmware to rule out any version-related issues.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!

Keep Rockin’!
