Anyone regularly gigging with BeatBuddy?

Another “BB” debut with Already Gone

Thanks for sharing. Nice performance and recording. Love the vocals and the mandolin.

Thank you. The sound system was already in place (not the best in the world but was a plug 'n play). I prefer to use my own equipment.

AMEN brother! Just wish I could afford one. I have the Fishman SA Solo amp and also a Yamaha StagePass 06i that I love. One day they will grow up and become a Bose! But the clarity is very good on both systems (and my old PA a Peavy that weighs a ton!). I played this past weekend for a fundraiser (freebie but good exposure) and they had their sound system set up (omg!!) the Yamaha speakers they were using for mains were blown evidently and rattled like a snake!

I’ve been using BB, for about 6 months, I do a solo piano, Left hand bass hotel resort gig. The Tom fills are much too loud, especially the intros, it’s a drag when you’re doing a ballad, and the fills are the loudest thing in the whole gig. I also use a Bose L1, which is great, but with the subwoofer, I’m always having to adjust the bass level in every instrument, room, etc. The intro fills are a distraction most of the time, but the potential is great.

My wife and i have been gigging with “buddy” for two years now. So much more than a fancy metronome…its now an indispensable member of our group. Of course nothing will beat a solid percussionist, but the Beatbuddy is a super close second. The only gripe i have is i wish the pedal had a realistic tempo waver…between one and two tempo above and below the beat would be ideal.little more like a human. The sobriety setting on tipsy just moves to much.

Agreed, the Sobriety function – which I think was kind of a good-natured joke – could actually be a really useful feature, especially if it could be invoked on individual songs (“invoked” = there’s a default setting, but on a given song, you add a little waver). I say that because I have a couple of purchased MIDI files that are way too “on-the-beat,” and could use a bit of humanizing.

Oh, good! It’s not just me who thought the toms are too loud. Yowza! When I finally got enough nerve to check out the midi editor in the Beat Buddy computer program, I lowered the intensity of the toms in all the songs I’m using, and then copied those into a folder (alphabetically) for use in my solo acoustic shows. On the copies, I also deleted some of the fills that didn’t seem to fit.

I play in a full band, too, but I only use the BB in my solo rig:

If it’s a small room, I just use my Fishman Loudbox Performer amp. Ch. 1 - vocal microphone. Ch 2 - Guitar and separate looping microphone > Boss RC-300 Looper > amp. The Beat Buddy gets plugged into the “Auxiliary” spot in the back of my amp and has a separate volume control knob, so I can more easily reach/control the BB volume. (From using it regularly, I know now that some of the songs on my BB come across louder than others!)

If it’s a larger room, my husband will run sound with a Presonus board using his iPad (EV speakers and sub).

Skwearlswife, - that’s pretty much the setup I use on a solo gig, except my Fishman Loudbox is the Artist model (smaller than yours). I sometimes play my passive pickup guitar that doesn’t have an internal pre-amp or volume control, so I could never get the volume of the drums low enough with my guitar. Plugging the BB into the Aux jack solved the problem, although I sometimes wish I could EQ that input. I think most on the forum agree some of the drums are too loud for some songs. I’m glad we can change it with the editor.

thanks Bill…yea shes a monster

I gig regularly with mine. No problems. I’m using OnSong and a midi interface so I really don’t even have to think about the BeatBuddy. It’s just always ready to play the right song. No complaints.

been using Beat Buddy (BERT - Binary Electronics Replicating Tempo) for the past 2 years works great even if
I forget to add fills every once in a while - practice practice practice

agree with monitor for BB though -played MIDI a while ago - worked great until the audience kicks in with their version of Tempo - had to restart 3 times - and it was a simple beat!!!

I have gigs daily, and haven´t had major issues, sometimes it will take sometime to load the beat and start of with only a hi hat or some random drum, but after a couple of bars its ok, also I use it synched with the Boss RC 300 and work great together spyte what many may say!
