I believe Mackie, Yamaha and Peavey all make nice powered monitors. I also believe they would end up costing as much as in ear monitors. Do you run through a mixer board with a separate monitor send? Do you already have a power amp that you could use for passive monitors? I used to have 10 inch Laney’s that worked fine for my band. Definitively look for monitors that you can chain together unless you are planning on getting a mixer board that allows for sending different monitor mixes to each band member.
I havent purchased a mixer as yet. Still trying to make sense of what to buy. I would have thought id need at least a 15 inch speaker for the beatbuddy for those low thump sounds? THen will probably have to buy a small to mid mixer for the 3 of us. If we went in wireless in ear monitors, are there mixers out there that allow separate personal mixes for each musician i.e like a JAMHUB??
My PA setup is as follows.
I have a Behringer XR12 digital mixer. Incredible bit of gear for the price. Controlling it is done with a tablet or laptop and if you are not good with tech it can be a steep learning curve using it but it sounds incredible and has all the features of it’s bigger siblings just less inputs.
I have a pair of Yamaha DBR12 powered speakers. Are the bottom of the yamaha range but sound great, have a seven year warranty.
I also have a 15" powered sub which I like using with the beatbuddy.
The 12" speakers still sound good with the Beatbuddy and I have used them on their own but I really like having the kick of the sub. 15" Speakers might be the way to go if you don’t plan on a Sub.
I have been able to setup the system with the Speakers behind me or to the side a bit instead of having seperate monitors. The XR12 is really good for ringing out feedback from mics due to 31 band eq on mains and monitors built in. If looking for seperate mixes the XR12 has 2 monitor feeds while the XR16 has 4 and the XR18 has 6. These monitor feed mixes can them be controlled by the individuals using them via their own smartphone of tablet.
If you are only want something for the beatbuddy on it’s own you can plug it directly into a powered speaker. Most of the powered speakers on the market would be fine. Drummer in my band uses a QSC K12 powered speaker for his Vdrums and it sound awesome. Would be my pick if I had the coin.
That XR16 board sounds like it would be an excellent piece of kit!
I use a Alto TS210 powered monitor for my Line 6 Helix guitar modeler - it is a 10" Full Range Flat Response (FRFR) and has about 1000w. I am running the BB through it too. It has 2 inputs in the back with separate levels so you might be able to get away without a mixer, but I run all my stuff through a small Alto 5 channel mixer for blending.
All us guitar modeler guys love it as its the best bang for your buck out there - like $220
From a Dec posting: “We have been happy with EV ZXa1 (only 8”) for our PA which are now aided by the matching EV sub. I found the xover at 100Hz nicely promotes bass guitar frequencies of course - but even here with open low E at 40Hz most of what we hear is higher (whether fundamental notes or harmonics). Since we use BB in stereo and get a nice full roll panned across on many intros and fills I was curious where BB sits sonically when adding the sub. Turns out there is very little audible via the sub alone. So…smaller speakers are indeed needed to handle a broad range and unloading the bass and rolling off from 100 Hz down on output EQ (to avoid adding un-needed mud) works fine." In short - you don’t need large ‘air movers’ for BB but loading smaller (or really any) cones with full range spectra from all the sounds your band produces makes mud.
BTW EVs are less costly than some but still have top shelf performance - more than lesser expensive makes and have very good reliability (we’ve used these for 5+ years).
Hello everyone!
I started giggin with the BB a month ago, and I’m super happy, at first it was…kinda hard (that’s what she said) you know, feeling a bit unsure, not familiar with the changes verse/chorus/bridge and so on…but I found out for example that i play much better when a songs has separate parts rather than JUST one part, gives me more space for improvisation and I can save myself If i miss something… (whenever something sounds not ok…it’s just jazz ladies and gentlemen!)
I love the editing part…and thank you to all those posting new songs and kits!
Now I play with it 20 songs…will be 40 in few weeks…
Some songs are mine, and the rest are pop/rock covers.
My setup is:
Mixer - Mackie profx12
2 550w behringer speakers for bigger gigs or a small behringer euro live for small clubs.
A taylor GSMini with the following pedals: TC-Helicon Harmony Singer, EHX Epitome, EHX Mel9, Morley Wah/Volume/Distortion pedal, a ditto looper x2 (but pretty useless with the bb).
I’m desperate to find a Boomerang 3 to use with the BB, but they disappeared from the market cause the company sold to someone else and I read it’s the best looper around…so don’t wanna buy anything else.
Keep rocking brothers and sisters!Keep rocking!
If you have an IPad i cannot stress the Quantiloop enough. I LOVE it. It is by far the best looper out there and the updates just keep making it better and better. It puts any hardware looper to shame, it is that good. It time stretches, unlimited loops, and MIDI syncs to the BeatBuddy perfect, there is not one looper out there that comes close. I have been using mine for live shows and I sounds amazing and it also links up perfect with OnSong. There is No way I am ever going back to a hard ware Looper. http://quantiloop.com/
Hey Larry! What are you using to trigger the Quantiloop?
I use the BeatBuddy to start/stop and control tempo for the Quantiloop, I run it through a iRig Duo, all with midi I will post a video and you can see how it works.
That’d be great – thanks!
Joe
I’m looking forward to seeing your video too …
I was about to buy the boomerang, cause it’s got the possibility to record up to 4 different loops and put em in sequence…does the quantiloop offers the same options?
You can record 4 different tracks on the same phrase and run each one separate from the other. It is insane what it does. I can not even tell you here all the features it can do, it also improves with every software update, it reverses, time stretches, you can add effects, it can be controlled by a midi pedal, Stereo, and syncs excellent with the BeatBuddy. Here is the link to the manual. http://quantiloop.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/quantiloop2.pdf. The price is 9.99 US Dollars.
Can you also provide us with a link to a suitable foot controller that allows to trigger at least the rec/overdub/play/stop functions?
Because my only doubt is: The Boomerang3 has 5 footswitches, each one can be set to trigger 2 functions (tap=function 1 / tap hold=function2) that kind of control is crucial for the kinda music I intend to do…and wanna make sure the quantiloop offers me the same…
Thank you for taking the time!
I use the Irig BlueBoard but you have a big choice.
There are many MIDI controllers on the market and your choice depends on your preference.
MIDI controllers that are known to work with Quantiloop are:

[]Behringer FCB1010
[]Positive Grid BT-4 (Latching Only!!)
[]Line 6 FBV3

Thanks Larry! I’ll give it a look!!!
Keep rockin’
No doubt, used the Quantiloop last night and it worked great. Im told there are many new awesome updates coming soon. Also if there is a feature you need that is not in the software, go to facebook and message him and he a lot of times will install that feature, he is a really great to work with.
Can you program/prerecord bass lines for each song, then using Onsong, have them load when you go to the next song? That’s what I’m trying to achieve…
Are you talking about the Quantiloop? If you asking yes you can
