I’ve been trying to get my BB to change parts with Midi Maestro. . I entered the proper CC 113 and and the part number. But when I hit the button, it doesn’t change but gets stuck on the transition. What am I doing wrong?
You need to follow the midi message with another, CC113, 0 to finish the transition
Hi, sorry to reply to myself but I’m a bit perplexed about the midi commands to change Part. I just advised tshevory that he/she needs to send a CC113,0 to end the transition. Belatedly, I tried it for myself. I sent CC113,2 then CC113,0 and the BB display did switch to Part 2 but that was with the BB stopped. If I try it while BB is running (as you would), it sticks in the transition. Not what anyone would want. A single press on the BB pedal completes the transition (rather than doing a fill). I get the same behaviour with CC121 and CC122. I then found that the CC113,0 isn’t necessary if the BB is stopped - sort of makes sense as there’s not point in a transition if it isn’t running. I’ve repeated all this with a Midi utility to manually send the commands (rather than from my HX Stomp) and get the same results. Help, am I being a numpty or is there a bug?
Strumboli,
Sorry to take a while to get back to you, but I was out of town. I tried what you suggested and had exactly the same result that you had. The weird thing is that when I first entered the change part CC’s it worked fine. But then I made a bunch of other changes, and reentered it all back in, and then the problem emerged. I don’t remember or know what I had entered previously for change part that worked okay, but I am pretty sure that there’s a way to make it all work.
At this point, I’m just running everything from the BB mode, rather tha Custom mode, and it works fine, but there are obviously limitations to doing it that way, since you lose a lot of flexibilty. At this point I’m wondering (a) if there’s a way to check how change part is entered in the BB mode, so that I could copy it, or (b) mirror the BB into the Custom Mode and then make whatever modifications or additions to it that would work for me.
Anyway, thanks for following up. If you figure it out, please let me know.
Quick follow up.I can’t post a link here, but I found a note on the forum that explains how to make a BB template that you can then modify. . It may have been what I originally did.
It’s under the heading, “Can I modify the “factory” Beatbuddy mode on Maestro?”
Good luck.
Hi, glad that you are making progress. I’m not using a Midi Maetro so can’t comment on those modes. I have sorted my problem of switching parts and although I use Line 6 Helix hardware, the solution might be relevant to anything that sends multiple midi messages e.g. CC113,2 : CC113,0. Helix pedals have a ‘command centre’ that can be set to fire off midi messages when you change presets / snapshots, as I would when switching guitar sound. My aim was to switch BB parts when I switched from verse to solo, for example. For solo, I sent CC113,2 as one message and CC113,0 as another. You can even add a delay so I delayed the CC113,0 by 50ms to be sure they arrived in the right order. On the first attempt, it all worked ok but when I pressed the Helix button to switch back to verse, I didn’t get the programmed CC113,1 : CC113,0. I just got CC113,1 so the BB was stuck in transition. The Helix command centre saw the CC113,0 as being ‘no change’ because I’d used the second midi message slot for that previously, Arggghhh. At least I now know what’s going on. The solution has been to put the CC113,0 in different midi message slots each time. Fortumately there are 6 separate midi message slots per guitar sound so there’s enough for me to put the CC113, n in slot 1 and CC113,0 in 2 or 3 or 4… for each sound. I put a dummy midi message in the unused slots to for it to think that CC113,0 is a change so it will transmit it. Phew. Maybe other hardware doing a similar task could have the same issue. Would be a lot easier if BB had new part change CC that worked instantly i.e. no transition or even if it plated the transition once.
If you encounter any issues with changing parts, please send an email directly to support@singularsound.com and I’ll help you get it set up perfectly.
When creating a new custom mode in the MIDI Maestro app on your phone, you can select BeatBuddy as a preset once you create it.
