The BB2 can currently use the Footswitch+ and the new SuperSwitch. I have a couple of TC Helicon vocal pedals that can use the Switch 3 (same as the Digitech FS3X) and as well the Switch 6 which bears physical similarities to the SS SuperSwitch. The BB original wasn’t designed to enable use of more than two external footswitches, but with the BB2 that has changed and is capable of six external switches. Is there a chance a three button footswitch such as the TCH Switch 3 or the Digitech FS3X could be used with the BB2? For me six foot buttons is a bit many, but three could be easy to manage and perfectly adequate. One of the aforementioned three button footswitches might already be part of ones collection of footswitches.
Great question. I will try my new BB2 today or tomorrow, and also see if my old Digitech FS300 (3-button) foot switch works with the BB2, as it does with my TC Helicon Play Acoustic and also VoiceLive 3 Extreme. I’ll also be trying my original TC Helicon Switch 6 to see if it can work as a replacement for the Superswitch, simply because I already have the Switch 6. Will let you know.
Unfortunately, this will not be possible, the SuperSwitch was built to work with the BeatBuddy 2 and vice versa, it was not built to support any other non-dual momentary device
The design is proprietary, it will not work with any other 6 button switch that we know of
Thanks for the question!
If it’s tried and it either works or doesn’t then you will know!!
It would be highly unlikely that any switch works the same way. We built a system that runs with firmware on the SuperSwitch, without the capacity to read and send the electric signals, there will likely either be unintended response or 0 response when using any other device. The probability of another switch working correctly is possible, but is near-zero chance likely.
I can confim that the Roland/Boss GA-FC doesn’t work at all with the BB2.
Surprisingly, the TC Helicon Switch 6 costs about 56€, The Roland/Boss GA-FC is about 110€, and the SS SuperSwitch is priced at 179€.
From a technical standpoint, the GA-FC offers the most features: one of the FS acts as a toggle, allowing the other five to alternate between two different functions, offering 10 pre-assigned functions with just six footswitches, and It also includes six nice red LEDs onboard.
Unfortunately, this type of foot controller only seems to work with specific devices from its own brand.
The Boss GA-FC has LED’s, so it evidently gets power from the amp it is plugged into and likely may have some active electronics inside which may digitally send commands to the device. The TCH Switch 6 is passive and made up of a string of resistors that form a resistive voltage divider. A TCH device ‘reads’ the voltage from the voltage divider depending on the button pressed and some logic in the controlled device determines what action the device is to do. Was kinda thinking that since the BB2 can accommodate either a standard 2 switch footswitch or the 6 switch SuperSwitch that the BB2 may use a similar design as the TCH.
