BBMO Online use only?

Just wondering if SS will ever make a version that is “NOT” exclusively for online use? Sometimes I don’t have access to being online and would like the ability to still work on beats for BB2.

I second that! And why not go the whole hog and sort out a tablet app (including IOS) version of the manager as well. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

@ThomasLangley Once the editor is loaded it should continue to work without an internet connection.

@Bridgy It can‘t work on a tablet like iOS because those browsers don’t support the file system API, specifically the ability to write to the file system. When (if) those become available it may work with some adjustments for touch based interfaces.

Thank you for posting your feature request! I’ve forwarded it to our team for consideration.

Thank you for your reply but you still have to have an internet connection to initially load the page.

Yes you do

That still doesn’t help if you are somewhere you don’t have internet connection.

@ThomasLangley Just because I am curious, under what circumstances do you need to configure the BB but don’t have internet? I am trying to understand your use case. I am not being sarcastic, but couldn’t you do your work when you do have Internet connection and use the BB for the gig regardless of internet availability?

I speaking of just working on beats for different songs. With the BBM it was an app that installed on your computer and you could use it anytime, no internet required. If im loading my SD card and lining up my set list then yes, I’ll have internet.

I see. I understand now. As a possibility, sometimes some mobile phone providers offer the ability to set up a hotspot with your phone. So your laptop connects to the cell hotspot and you have access to the internet via the cellular network. Although not ideal, food for thought…and based on what Andrew said, you only would have to connect to get started. Anyway, thanks for the explanation for a curious guy.

Another scenario, the one I’ve been thinking about, is what happens if The SS server is offline for an extended period of time or (perish the though) Singular Sound were to go out of business. Nothing like hardware that can no longer be programmed…

Probably best to have the BBM installed on your computer just in case. :grinning:

A little different than BBMO. I had a piece of gear that used a software manager/librarian that had to be enabled via the internet on installation. Worked great until the computer bit the dust and I went to install on the new computer and found out the company that created the software went belly up and the servers were no longer available to enable the software. Gear was still usable, but with no software there was no way to save, store, and rearrange patches easily. My wife had a similar problem with some fairly expensive software for a high end sewing machine when the company went out of business. One other thought on BBMO which likely wouldn’t happen, but could, is that BBMO goes to a subscription model to create a more steady revenue flow for SS. I’ve archived multiple copies of BBM on local drives and cloud storage and it works adequately for my original BB on my Win7 PC so until my original BB bites the dust I’m good. Not sure if I’d buy another BB v1 or not or go in a different direction for what I use it for. It will also be interesting as browsers change how they work and function if BBMO keeps up with the changes.

Regarding the new BB2, I’m wondering how long it will take before someone steps on it in a wrong way and snaps a knob shaft. Pretty exposed where they are versus the BB v1 knobs which are protected a bit by the footswitch.

I’m not using bbmo until a save option exists. I do not appreciate that my experiments finding the right beats and bpm make changes to the original beats. No way will I copy every beat to experiment. It would take forever to try many. Bbm allows me to try many beats quickly when trying to locate the best suited beat. I’ve made multiple suggestions on this.
