Beat Buddy, Loopers, Midi Sync

I read through the thread. Were the midi sync issues on the undisclosed list of BB “songs” fixed in the firmware update or will they still not sync correctly?

Well, first, they were actually “disclosed”, you may do the quick search.

Second, yes, they will start sync’ing correctly as long as you have “Settings > Main Pedal > MIDI Messages > Start” set to “Main Beat” (this is default for the most recent firmware as of currently).

I will search again for the list of affected songs.

I thought the issue regarding introductions being less than a full measure was a separate issue from the midi sync issue. When you fixed the midi sync issue for yourself, did you do so by extending the intros to a full measure?

My solution was to enlarge each intro up to the closest quarter note.
E.g. Pop Song 7 has a measure of 4/4, but it’s intro has a real measure of 17/32 (!)
Extending that to 3/4 fixes the sync’ing for Boomerang III.

I suspect this won’t be sufficient for, say, Pigtronix Infinity - as it operates in terms of complete bars. As you say, you will need to extend intro to a complete bar in this case.

Hi everyone
I just ordered a Boomerang III (latest firmware) and then a few days later I heard about the BB, and I had to have one so I ordered that too! They should both be arriving in the mail this week. Super excited. I will let you know my experiences with these two pedals. They will both be new to me, so it should be interesting to say the least. For me the BB’s ability to send MIDI clock out to the boomerang is a huge reason to buy. Also, I am interested in sending the MIDI clock to my other pedals to synchronise their tap to the beat, as well as sending clock to a korg ms2000r and yamaha djx.
cheers

I’d say you win big time here, as Rang III is still the best looper in the world when it comes to being MIDI Slave. Very soft looped track endings glueing, totally no speed/tone changes when sync’ing to BeatBuddy or any other problems you may encounter with other loopers. The only disadvantage could be that it has no memory for storing loops. Rang also can transmit received MIDI signal further to your other devices.

The Pigtronix Infinity works perfectly with the BB for me. There isn’t even any need to be that precise with pressing the switch for starting/stopping the loop since the action will occur at the start of the next measure with the default configuration.

There was an issue with an Infinity on this forum, though, that when a user resumes playing from pause it made his looper to wait for one full bar exactly because of the feature you are now talking about.

Having a good hammer to hammer nails with is great. Having a special extra safe hammer that protects your fingers when you accidentally hit them instead of a nail seems like a much better idea! But only until you figure out it’s not so convenient to hammer nails with that… Boomerang III is a reliable looper without such extra fluff.

TC-HELICON just put out new firmware where it can be a midi tempo slave. Tried it yesterday and while there are limitations, it did technically work. Need to spend some more time wit it, but the new firmware is still in beta.

Anyone else have tips for the voicelive 3?

Hi Marcel,

If you hop over to TC’s forum, you’ll see I started the posting, “VoiceLive 3 and BeatBuddy Setup”. I hope others can join in and add their own tips and tricks.

With the VL3’s December 2014 beta firmware that makes the sync possible, I did post specific information regarding a Tempo MIDI Lock message that pops up on the VL3, and this is something they will explain since it’s generated from their device.

Otherwise, so far it’s going well and I noticed in some cases the MIDI falls out of sync by one beat, and back in. More about this in TC’s forum.

Any Idea of a timeline fix for the MIDI sync problem?

RainMaker… if you’re referring to VL3, no idea at all. I recommend you check out the TC Helicon forum to find out the latest. There’s some useful info there.

anyone using the Boss RC300 three loop station??

Hi, I’m using Jamman stereo and BB. You still have to get timing right when stopping the loop recording, but the BB makes it a whole lot easier using auto record function. If you want to know more let me know.

Ihadzid… are you connected through Midi?

Hi, no mate the Jamman does not do midi, I use the BB to create loop start with BB on pause and Jamman on auto record mode hit pause on BB it starts the loop and stop when you have recorded what you want hit pause on BB and play on Jamman at the same time, like wise do the opposite to go back from loop to BB play. I could not do seem-less loops(without a whole lot of trouble) before using the jamamn was too hard. BB has made it a whole lot easier

I had had a really disappointing night with BB/Infinity looper combo…basically ended up disconnecting them and using them independently.
Are there fixes coming for these “affected” BB files?? Seemed like they were all affected.

Are you a Beat Buddy tech or employee?

I wish I could say the same! BB and my infinity cant do anything right ,very disappointing. Getting a Boomerang!

Keep us posted if the Boomerang works better for you. I don’t have any issues with the Infinity either, it does exactly what I expect it to do. The fact that you have to use the looper without MIDI sync has me curious as to what you’re trying to do with it.
