BeatBuddy 2 (BB2) Pedal Recovery Instructions

BeatBuddy 2 (BB2) Pedal Recovery Instructions

If a firmware update to your BB2 pedal is interrupted (e.g., electrical power is disconnected before the update process completes), or if something else has happened to your BB2 pedal, it may appear to be turned off and can’t be powered back up until you have applied the instructions below.

Some users report that unplugging a “bricked” pedal for a few minutes and then plugging it back in restores pedals. Your mileage may vary and if it does not work, then move on to the next steps for your particular computer OS.

These instructions are for Windows and Mac computer users on how to restore functionality to the BB2 pedal. If after completing these steps the pedal still doesn’t work, buy and use a new SDHC card class 10 card between 4Gb and 32Gb—no need to format or erase the new card as it comes out of the wrapper already formatted as MS-DOS FAT32; follow the instructions one more time; if this still doesn’t work, please e-mail Support support@singularsound.com

Instructions for macOS and Windows Computers. Follow these instructions completely and in the order presented. Failure to do so will result in your pedal remaining non-operational.

  1. Download the recovery file to your desktop:
    BB2-RECOVERY-1.0.0.img.zip (28.1 MB)
There’s is no need to expand or decompress it as Balena will do that for you.

  2. For Windows computers, download and install Etcher for Windows computers

  3. For macOS computers, download and install Etcher for Silicon macOS computers or Etcher for Intel macOS computers

• Place your unlocked SD card in your computer slot reader or external media reader. Reminder: any size card between 4Gb and 32Gb works but it must be an SDHC (and preferably a class 10) card.

• Double-click BalenaEtcher to open it (you may be prompted to allow the app to open)

• Click Flash from File and navigate to, select and then open the zipped recovery file from your desktop named BB2-RECOVERY-1.0.0.img.zip

• Click Select Target, navigate to and select the SD card

• Press Flash! (you may be prompted to enter your user or admin password); the flashing process takes up to 15 minutes

• When complete, eject the SD card from your computer

• With the power off on your BB2 pedal, insert the recovery card

• Turn on the power to your BB2 pedal; the pedal display should display Updating Firmware—DO NOT INTERRUPT the process

• When done, you can set your recovery card aside (suggest you mark it as BB2 Recovery) or, if you want to reuse the SD card, you must restore it to its original, pre-recovery size. You can do so by following these instructions

• Confirm that your BB2 is using the latest firmware version by checking the pedal settings; if not, download and update the firmware from BB2 Firmware; you might also want to check and restore your pedal settings.

Etcher software is also available for Linux as binary source, Appimage or Deb/RPM. So the good news is these unmodified instructions cover almost all desktop computers.

Can any Fat32 (2 GIG) image maker be used for the new BB2 hardware, is doesn’t matter? Currently there is only one version of the BB2 firmware….. I assume. thx..

It shouldn’t matter however, Singular Sound tested with Etcher for Windows and for macOS so that’s your safest bet. As mentioned above, Etcher also has a Linux version.
