BeatBudy2, Aeros, Maestro & Ableton

Hi All,

I am new to the BeatBudy2 and Midi and looking for help setting up my laptop to sync and trigger via Midi.

I own and I am using 3 SS products.

  1. BeatBuddy 2

  2. Aeros Gold

  3. Midi Maestro Gold

I have connected all 3 by following the SS YT instruction videos. Here is how it currently works.

  1. The Beat Buddy 2 will start the beat and the Aeros Looper simultaneously when the footswitch is pressed. (this is where I want to insert Ableton)

  2. The Midi Maestro can control either the Beat Buddy 2 or Aeros Looper depending on the mode, I use it mostly to create new track on the Aeros Looper.

What I want to do now, is start Ableton Live playback when I click the footswitch on the BeatBuddy2 while keeping all the other functionality intact.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on guidance on how to set this up.

Thanks!

Hello,

I see that you also emailed us, so I’ll assist you further there.

Why this bias? Why not let the whole forum benefit from your answer? I don’t really understand the point of keeping advice confidential.

In general, I recommend the following setup: MIDI Maestro MIDI Out → BeatBuddy MIDI In, BeatBuddy MIDI Out → Aeros MIDI In, Aeros MIDI Out → Computer MIDI In using a MIDI interface. With this setup, starting the BeatBuddy should trigger Ableton to play.

To add to my previous message, make sure to set up the Aeros in the MIDI settings to MIDI Merge and also configure Ableton so it receives the MIDI commands. This way, with the setup I mentioned,

MIDI Maestro → BeatBuddy → Aeros → Computer—starting the BeatBuddy will trigger Ableton to play.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, this does not work. When I change the Aeros midi settings to Midi Merge. Neither the BB2 nor the MM will start the Aeros song recording. When I set it back to Midi-thru it restores that functionality. Regardless of the midi setting Ableton will not start playback.

My current configuration is as follows: MM Midi Out → BB2 Midi In. BB2 Midi Out → Aeros Midi In, Aeros Midi Out (Midi Merge) to PC / Ableton.

With this set up. there are currently two problems.

First, I no longer have the functionality I used to have where MM was able to control BB2 and Aeros. This can be resolved by changing the midi settings back to midi thru.

Second, I still cannot start Ableton playback using either MM or BB2. Can you advise EXACTLY what settings need to be checked in Ableton for my Midi interface. Do I set it to Sync? Remote? Track? Should I do this for BOTH inputs and outputs?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the confusion! In the email I sent earlier, I mentioned that you should use MIDI-Thru, which is the default setting. When I cross-posted the instructions on the forum, I accidentally wrote MIDI Merge, which is incorrect.

Please follow the video I sent in the email, and if you run into any issues, let me know.
