Bluetooth midi built in

Wouldn’t it be a game changer if the Beatbuddy had built in Bluetooth for the midi. That way you wouldn’t have to have the dongle hanging off the side of it with the Bluetooth adapter attached. I strictly use this for control of the BB. When selecting songs from my setlist I have the midi code inserted so the correct beat, tempo and drun kit are selected.
I would definitely purchase a second Beatbuddy if it had built in bluetooth. After having my beatbuddy for the last year and having the dongle haning off the side of it with the blutooth adapter attached, I am just waiting for the day that the connector starts to give trouble.

The problem with Bluetooth MIDI is the latency. It’s just not even close to providing accurate lock-up timewise. As far as control it is adequate but time-code is a no go.

Not just latency, but also jitter.

I think Bluetooth has its place in midi communications

I have also noticed the latency, but jitter I’m not sure. Does it mean commands registering in unintended order or can it mean command not going through or even changing into another command?:no_mouth:

Jitter means the timing varies (speeds up and slows down). Latency is a general delay.

FYI, the WIDI devices have an option to optimize for latency or optimize for jitter. You can improve jitter by delaying/slowing down some messages.

This matters more to clock (timing) signals. It has less impact to non-timing related control messages.

Highly unlikely a BeatBuddy with builtin Bluetooth will ever happen and if it did it would probably increase the cost for a feature that not many would use. I for one wouldn’t use Bluetooth with the BB.
But I could envision a Bluetooth addon module that would plug in directly to the BB’s PS/2 mini DIN connector and had a low profile when mounted so as to not have to use the BB MIDI cable adapter with a BT device swinging loose in the breeze. Maybe a small square of Velcro to stabilize the module to the body of the BeatBuddy.

BOSS makes a BT module for a few of their products. Try to visualize this module fitted with a PS/2 mini DIN that plugs in flush to the side of the BB. A module like this should be easily doable by SS or a third party. :upside_down_face:

I also gave up on that due to the latency

Bluetooth has no place in a musical performance setup, as others said, due to latency.
