Can the Aeros do this?

Hello,

Some quick background first:
I am a long time BB user. I own 2 of them actually. I have purchased tons of add-on content and gig 3 -5 times per week. I only use the beat buddy to play a beat (no intros, no outros, no fills, no beat changes from verse to chorus). I use onsong to connect to the BB to change songs via MIDI. My looper is a Boomerang and I use 2 tracks at most with overdubbing, synced to the BB (BB is the master).

What I would like to do with Aeros:
My hope is to eliminate the BB and use track one of the Aeros as my drums. Every saved song on the Aeros would essentially be just the drums for each song saved on track one. I would live loop to the drums (track 1) on the other tracks.

Can Aeros:

  1. Can I use track one as a drum loop (import drums)?
  2. Can I lock track one so it cannot be overwritten but live loop on other tracks?
  3. If track one (the drum loop) is 4 bars can I loop an 8, 16 etc bar live loop on other tracks?
  4. Can I time stretch the drum loop if I find the tempo is too fast or slow? This is prior to adding any live looping
  5. Can I send track one (the drum loop) out a separate output from the rest of the tracks?
  6. Can I send a MIDI PC message to select a specific song on the Aeros?
  7. Lets say track one is playing(the drums). If I have stopped track 2 at some point and now want to restart track 2, does it wait until loop one comes around to the “1” of the track 1 loop or does it start immediately?
  8. If I stop a different track other than the drums, then select stop all. If I select start all do all the loops start or if a loop was already off it stays off?

Now a legal use question. I own the content for the BB. I have bought it all. Is it legal or frowned upon to use the BB sounds to import into the Aeros as I suggest above?

Any commentary is greatly appreciated,
Rick

It seemed like a good idea…sigh.

Hi Rick,

Thank you for your detailed questions! Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. Yes, you can easily import backing tracks.
  2. It is possible to lock a track.
  3. Yes, you can record multiples of the original loop.
  4. Time-stretching the backing track inside the Aeros isn’t possible, but you can do this in your DAW before importing.
  5. It’s not possible to send a specific track to a different output.
  6. Yes, you can select a song through MIDI.
  7. You can “stop” a track by muting it. You can set this up in the settings:
  • Mute/Unmute Track: Tracks will mute/unmute based on the following:
    • End of Loop: Mutes/unmutes at the end of the loop.
    • End of Measure: Mutes/unmutes at the end of the current measure. Freeform tracks will mute/unmute at the end of the loop.
    • Immediate: Mutes/unmutes immediately. (End of Measure is the default setting.)
  1. If a track was off, it stays off when you start all.
