I have a new MIDI Maestro Gold Edition. It came with firmware v.1.1.7. I just downloaded the MIDI Maestro App v.1.8.0 (the latest on AppStore for IOS). I am running IOS v.18.2.
I put the MM into Pairing Mode (flashing blue light), open the app (after a clean reboot of the iPhone and a power cycle of the MM), and go to the hamburger menu, and touch “Update Firmware”. It immediately takes me back to the MM App’s Home Screen (Page 1). The MM firmware is still on v.1.1.7.
I have tried numerous times, with reboots and power cycles, and the same failure occurs every time.
What am I doing wrong, or what is wrong with the system?
I just tried and it appears that the Singular Sound MIDI Maestro v1.8.0 app does not work with iOS 18.2.
Am unable to update the firmware to 1.1.9 and my symptoms are the same as reported by @fiddleman
I’ve changed the category of this topic to a bug report. As soon as Apple releases the second beta for iOS 18.3, I’ll give that a try. Meanwhile, I used Apple’s Feedback Assistant to report this issue.
If you have an Android device (maybe borrow one and install the MIDI Maestro app), you can give that a try to see if that works. Please let us know.
Changed the subject line of this thread by removing “Bug Report”.
I updated a different device to iOS 18.3b1 and started the firmware and Default Modes update again.
First thing I noticed was that I was prompted to allow iOS to find and use Bluetooth devices. As soon as I approved, iOS started updating the firmware on my Maestro.
iOS 18.2 did not prompt me for permission. It successfully completed the firmware and Default Modes updates.
Just a reminder, there’s no need to pair your iOS device and the Maestro (not saying that you did—this is simply a reminder for other users that find this thread.
I just went back and tested with another device running 18.2 and the update process is now working. I don’t know why it didn’t work the first time around. It could be that Apple has a Bluetooth permissions issue with 18.2 discovering the Maestro.
Give the update process with iOS 18.2 another try and let us know how it goes. If it doesn’t work, you can support@singularsound.com for help. iOS 18.3 should be released sometime in the latter half of January.
Turns out that if you go into IOS 18.2 settings, go to Privacy and Security, and disable Bluetooth for the Singular Sound MIDI Maestro app, and then re-enable it, I got it to work. It’s still working… very slowly… but at least it’s trying. Thanks for the help – it gave me the idea to mess with the permissions. The MM App really should be more explicit about checking the availability of Bluetooth access and say something if it is not available – and offer to turn it on.
OK, no sooner did I post my last reply, my iPhone did a full reboot (I wasn’t touching it at the time). I’ve restarted the process (still VERY slow), and will report on whether or not it was a success.
So – the MM App reported that the update succeeded… but it took 30 minutes to complete.
Something else I did not understand was, when the firmware update finished and I power-cycled the MM, it left my MM COMPLETELY BRICKED!!! (or so I thought…):
“EPROM
INVALID” now appears in the top three display windows, while the bottom three are blank!!!
Turns out that you HAVE TO update the default modes, or it doesn’t work and behaves as above.
IMHO, the firmware update and the default mode update should be part of the same process.
Bottom line – it all worked in the end, but it was a perilous process, to say the least. Thanks again for all of your inputs. Happy Holidays.
