My old Oberheim Drummer could change from ride cymbal to high hat to tambourine while the beat was playing by pushing the same pedal consecutively .
That would be a big step towards making this sound like a real drummer changing up the sound.
You will be able to create two song parts - one with ride cymbal, second with hi-hat (or even add the third with high tambourine), then use transitions to change that sound.
