Display tempo on ipad via wireless bluetooth

I’m trying to find a way to play in sync with BB tempo before the drums enter a song (e.g. first verse played only by acoustic guitar, drums enter at second verse), without having to look at the floor.

Seems the ipad app “onthe8” should be able to capture and display beats via Bluetooth Midi coming out of the BB, but I haven’t had any success, though ipad is connected fine for control of the BB in MidiDesigner. Has anyone got this or something similar to work? Or (even better) is there a way that MidiDesigner can display the tempo signal coming from BB?

Wireless Bluetooth is notoriously bad at streaming MIDI clock and that may be why this is not working so well. There really is no way around a wired connection if you want to have adequate or even functional timing across devices.
