Emergency! Looper started popping on Loop turnaround

I have prerecorded Loops with transients directly on the downbeat. now that I surpassed 50% capacity on the internal memory (i‘m not sure this is the cause of the issue/maybe coincidence?) the looper started Popping loudly on turnaround. Funnily enough NOT when i just loaded the song. on first playback everything is fine. If i stop and start the playback afterwards it sounds like some sort of fade doesnt work anymore creating these annoying clicks.

I‘m playing shows every other day right now, so I‘m in desperate need of a quick solution :grimacing:

Have you tried the latest beta of the Aeros firmware? If not, you might want to do so. Also email support@singularsound.com; maybe you’ll get a quick response; it’s best if you provide a video with your email request.

I haven’t tried the new beta firmware yet. Since I am working as a professional musician and earn all of my money playing live I made it a rule to never use any beta firmware versions on all of my gear except when they directly addressed an issue i was having.

But this clicking issue was actually the tipping point and I switched back to a BOSS Looper (RC-500) because I cannot be unsure if my gear will hold up and the AEROS always had a little bit of an unstable feeling to it (jittering display animations, longer loading times, super long boot time).

Just for future reference I will list my main issues with the AEROS here that made me switch back to BOSS after nearly 100 shows with it:

  • Loading time: I use pre-produced loops, that are saved as songs. They get called by my iPad via MIDI and it takes about 2-3 seconds before I’m ready. As a comparison the BOSS RC-500 loads instantaneously

  • Wonky fade logics: I started on a BOSS RC-30 and used my loops, which typically contain a kick drum with a transient pretty close to the start of the audio file. The AEROS always faded the signal in so the first transient got kind of dulled down. I never had any of that on any BOSS looper.

  • The clicking issue that just arose. (I don’t use Loop Decay). Seems to be connected to the fade algorithms. they seem to stop working from the second PLAY ALL action onward and I have a loud clicking sound on the loop turnaround (If there’s a transient present, either pre-produced or live looped)

  • headroom: Using my acoustic guitar as a percussion instrument including a fairly low end rich kick sound when hitting the strings, the AEROS always clipped. I didn’t mind so much since the low end still came through, but after switching back to the RC-500 I have to admit, that having a non clipping signal is definitely better.

  • The Display: at first I was a huge fan and the optics were super nice, but at the end of the day it still feels like a gimmick. I played in sunlight-situations where it was just not bright enough and the playback animations sometimes feel a little jittery and seem to freeze for a couple of ms.

  • NO BACKUP! : this is actually a huge problem: a lot of time and effort went into programming the AEROS the way i wanted it to be. Loading all the backing tracks, creating the songs, MIDI mapping everything correctly. And then, when i was looking for a possibility to back everything up: there was none. After all the work i did, if the AEROS froze or malfunctioned and the only way to get it back would be to initialize or even by a new one: there would be no way to simply load all my content back up. With a simple click. This is a MUST HAVE for a professional product.

Add to all of this, that the RC-500 is less than half the price and outperforms the AEROS on every single account. Only if the 6x6 mode is something vital to your setup, there is really no alternative to the AEROS out there.

If I find the time later this month I will get in touch via mail and try to document the clicking issue. And also I want to say thank you for the nice community and forum support here. I’m sad that the AEROS seemingly got that little attention by your company in the last year, but I definitely appreciated this space and the quick replies to every post I made.

Best, Tobi

Edit: I just saw that there is a new firmware version released. I will install it and test the main reason of this post as soon as i find the time.
