I am looking to control some other drum apps (up to five) each receiving on a different channel.
My question is, can I have, say, fiver user setups, each transmitting on a different channel?
Reason for the question is these apps are on an iOS device and as they are IAA, all need to be open at the same time, however a controller to operate them on a single channel doesn’t work as they are different channels, if I set them to the same channel they all start playing at once. Hence the need for a device like the MM to all ow me change setups, on the fly, so I can have it send on multiple channels, just not at the same time.
And, yes, I have looked at the manual, but, to me, it is unclear on this point.
So instead of user setup I’ll use just midi commands. So how many midi commands can MM user mode define? is the question I’ll be answering
Each button press can have I think 8 commands (verify these numbers from manual) and if set to toggle then another 8 16 for one button. These commands are sent at the same time so mighr not work for you.
MM has six buttons and each user mode can have 10 pages 60 button definitions. If you have external footswitch then you can have midi commands for each 60, otherwise just 50 (one button is reserved to switching pages)
So for five apps you can have 10 functions each. Just note that start and stop can fit one button using toggle If start and stop are the only things you need then you need only five buttons (single page is enough)
Nope, sorry - totally missed the point! It is NOT the number of functions, it is the number of MIDI channels from different sets, and onstage I do not want to be needing to multiple press anything tbh!
I have finally discovered the line in the manual that states only one User setup is available on the machine at any one time, although I can load others from, say, an iphone using the app. However that is sooooo unbelievably slow it is useless on stage.
I will investigate if I can overwrite the factory sets.
But it’s still a bit unclear what you want to achieve Do you want to have 180 different functions? Are you planning to hack your MM?
So how many commands each setup requires? More than 10?
I mean that you can freely assign any midi channel to different commands. So you have 60 (or 50) functions that each can command all five setups if needed, even 8 setups if needed (without toggle)
