How to begin: couple of newbie questions

Hi all,

I started to learn the Beat Buddy a few years ago but stopped – now I’m ready to incorporate it into a duo I’m in, and am back to square one.

Couple of questions:

  1. Should I update the software before anything? (I stopped using it in late 2022).
  2. I use an older Mac, operating system is Mojave and I can’t update the it for lack of memory. Will this work if I keep all my data on an external drive?
  3. Where are the best sources for learning BB from the ground up? Youtube? anything on Skillshare?

Thanks if anyone would like to just point me in the right direction. I’m a senior so the learning can be a bit challenging lol.

Some food for thought:

  1. The pedal firmware has probably been updated since you last worked with the pedal. Since you’re almost starting from scratch, you should update and learn to use its new features.
  2. The BeatBuddy Manager (BBM) probably hasn’t changed much however, a newer application is available, the BBM Online. You might be able to get it working with Google Chrome but you might not be able to do so since you are using Mojave.
  3. You can save and use your project on your external drive.
  4. You might want to reread the BeatBuddy (BB) and the BBM user manuals as a refresher.
  5. As for getting help or tutorials, I think it depends on how you prefer to use the BB. Are you going to use the default content or do you want to use the one-press songs? Once you sort that out, circle back and let us know where you want to focus and we’ll try to point you in the right direction. You can always contact support@singularsound.com for one-on-one help.

Thank you so much, that’s very helpful!

I’ll do what you suggested and see how far I can get – for sure the BB will be used in live performance, and most likely with the default content and the foot switch to change the patterns rather than one-press.

I’m glad I remembered the forum, I think it’ll be a big help.
