Curious, is there a maximum number of drumkits that can be saved on the BB? Just checked and I have over 170, no issues. I am not selecting them via MIDI or anything, I just assign them directly to the song I create.

It there’s a maximum, I’ve not run into it yet. As long as you have an SDHC CL 10 card no larger than 32GB, you should be fine.

Agreed, no set maximum, just the math on the storage issue. Assuming most kits are close to the 100mb limit, that’s 10 kits per GB. allowing space for the midi files in the songs, which are small, and any accent hits added to songs, which are not as small, you should be able to have about 300 kits on a card. Your mileage will vary, allowing for some exceptionally small kits, or heavy use of the accent hit feature within songs.

Is this assuming that each drum kit uses different samples for each instrument? 
Or are the same samples saved multiple times on the SD card, assuming that some drum kits reuse the same samples? 
Pretty sure every drumkit saves its own samples in its own container, even though they could use the same samples as other drumkits.

This is correct.
(@jdonato). Even if drumkits share use of a sample, when the .drm is saved, the BB software will replicate the sample in each kit. There is no space saved by using samples across multiple kits.
