MIDI Maestro + BeatBuddy + Aeros: Synchronized Part Transitions

Hi all,

I’m working on a MIDI setup using these three Singular Sound devices:

  • BeatBuddy as the Master (MIDI Clock, Start/Stop),
  • MIDI Maestro to control both BeatBuddy and Aeros,
  • Aeros Loop Studio as MIDI slave (receiving clock from BB).

Everything is connected via MIDI and working for the most part. However, I’m running into a problem when trying to create transitions synchronized to the end of the loop on Aeros while also triggering a part transition on BeatBuddy.

What I want:
When I press a button on MIDI Maestro labeled Part 1–5, I want it to:

  1. Queue the part change on Aeros to occur at the end of the current loop, not immediately or just at the next measure.
  2. At the same time, send the correct CC to BeatBuddy to switch to the same part in sync.

What I tried:
I used the Aeros CC113 command with values like 91–96 or 101–106, but BeatBuddy does not react to these commands. The Aeros queues the part, but nothing happens on the BeatBuddy.

I understand that CC113 is for queued transitions on Aeros, but I’m not sure how to combine this with BeatBuddy control. I want to achieve seamless, synchronized part changes (like verse → chorus) at the end of the loop, not immediately.

I already emailed Singular Sound support, but posting here in case anyone has solved this already.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I want you to understand – I’m asking for your help, and I absolutely don’t want to offend you. Please keep that in mind.

I want to use your products. I really do. But I need help making them easier and smoother to operate. I need to fine-tune some things.

I live not far from the Ukrainian border — and sometimes, around 60 kilometers from here, bombs still go off.
So yes, I would really like to loop something, play live, and just enjoy music — while I still can.
I honestly don’t know how the situation in Europe is going to evolve.

I own your original full Singular Sound setup, not the Gold Edition, but the Silver:

  • Aeros Loop Studio
  • BeatBuddy
  • MIDI Maestro
  • Footswitch
All of them updated with the latest firmware.

What I really need right now is a clear answer to this:

Let’s say I’m playing a song and I’ve finished the first loop. When that loop ends, I want both BeatBuddy and Aeros to automatically move to the next part — when I press Part 2 on MIDI Maestro.
I want this transition to happen synchronously, at the end of the loop, not just at the end of the bar or immediately.

Also, I’d really like to be able to:

  • Delete a specific track while recording a song,
  • Then re-record that one track, like an “overwrite” or fix.

Furthermore, I’d love to be able to pre-program the order of loops before the song starts — for example:
Loop 1 → Loop 2 → Loop 4 → Loop 3 → Loop 6 → Loop 5 → back to Loop 2
And then have these transitions happen automatically, without me needing to press anything in real time.

Because let’s be honest — if I’m playing a full solo (for example, a solo by John Petrucci) — I don’t have time to press buttons. You need time and precision to do that.
And when you’re already focused on your performance, it’s really difficult.

I already managed to connect a tablet with MIDI commands via WIDI H4 and WIDI Core, so I can monitor everything visually — since I’m older and I can’t see what’s happening near my feet during a show.
That’s all manual control, but it works.

If you can’t make this work through MIDI Maestro or official firmware, please just tell me – and I’ll create my own solution. I can use Nektar Pacer or Arduino with 6–12 buttons, and program it to behave exactly how I need it — for 1/5 of the cost.

But please — give me an honest answer.
I really want to play music and make the most of the gear I’ve already invested in.

Set the Aeros as master and this will work !
Go to settings>Midi>Midi out>set transition on >set as transmitter,
Don’t forget to change the cable connection

Thanks for the suggestion — I tried setting the Aeros as MIDI master, enabled “transition on” and “set as transmitter”, and yes — queued transitions now work correctly. That part is great.

However, this creates a new issue in real-world live use:

When Aeros is the master, I lose the ability to start the song and BeatBuddy (with intro) simultaneously.

With BeatBuddy as master, I could hit one button and everything would start: drums + intro + loops in sync.
Now, I need to press two buttons — one for BeatBuddy and one for Aeros — and time it perfectly after the intro, which is very difficult in a live performance. Especially if I’m playing guitar and don’t have time to hit both accurately.

This breaks the workflow.
I understand it’s a limitation in the current firmware, but it would be incredibly helpful if:

  • Aeros (as master) could also send a “Start with intro” command to BeatBuddy,
  • Or MIDI Maestro could be configured to start both devices in proper sync with one button.

Please consider improving this in future updates — this would help many live musicians who depend on synced intros and part transitions.

Thanks again for your help!

yep I forgot to mention that
But it’s possible
make the command to start the Beatbuddy and another to start the recording of the Aeros
Set into a custom:
Start Beatbuddy as press
and start recording Aeros as release
In this case  When you press and HOLD the switch the BB start
after the intro release the switch this start the recording.

the truth is, I’ve never understood why it works one way and not the other.

Thanks! Yes — I see what you mean now.

So basically I can assign:

  • Press → CC110 (Start BB with intro)
  • Release → CC43 (Start Aeros recording)

This gives a one-button solution, and I’ll just need to time the release manually to match the end of the BB intro. Not ideal, but better than nothing!

It still feels strange that there’s no direct way for Aeros (as master) to start BB intro in sync.
Maybe in the future you guys could implement a proper linked start command or scriptable delay?

Thanks again — I’ll try this in practice!

There is another option (visual option)
Make the command CC 41 value 101
Go to settings of Aeros>Midi>Midi Out>scroll down to “Sens start when scrolling” and ENABLE
In your custom Set :
CC 114 Value 127 (start Beatbuddy) as press
CC 43 start the Aeros WITHOUT recording as press
CC 41 Value 101 to start recording as Release
In this case the BB and Aeros start, you can see the measure on the Aeros
And start the recording after the intro

Thanks a lot – this method actually makes a lot of sense!

The idea of triggering both devices and then using CC41 value 101 with visual timing on the Aeros screen is really helpful.
I didn’t know about the “Start when scrolling” option before — I’ll definitely try this out.

This might be the most practical solution so far.
I’ll test it in my setup and report back how it goes.

Thanks again for your support!
