"Next Part" doesn't function while recording

Config (I’ve not confirmed for other configurations):

  • 2x2
  • Autoq

Steps:

  • Start recording
  • Observe “next part” button is (correctly) red, meaning that pressing it will change part and start recording that part
  • Push it
  • Nothing happens

Pressing “Play” then “Next Part” (still red) works as expected.

The same fault is present in the second part, so we can continue:

  • Press “Play”
  • Press “next part” (in red), starts recording next part
  • “Next part” now (correctly) in green
  • Press “next part”
  • Nothing happens

The colours indicate that they are intended to do exactly the right thing – end this recording and switch parts. But in neither case does that happen.

This makes it very hard to follow this live-performance use case:

  • Start playing, activate record to record verse (loop1)
  • Song calls for a Chorus at end of verse recording
  • Impossible to do without starting playback of loop1; which obviously is wrong for the song.

Similarly

  • Record loop of verse chords, end with “play”
  • Sing verse 2
  • Next part, start recording chorus (loop2)
  • Want to end recording of loop2 and instantly switch back to the verse

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out! Please ensure that your Aeros is running the latest firmware. If the issue persists after updating, please send a video of the issue to support@singularsound.com, and I’ll assist you accordingly.

I’m running latest.

I’m out of country at present. I’ll take a video as soon as I can.

Thanks for response.

For completeness of the thread; here’s the email response from Singular:

This is expected behavior; you are unable to go to the next part while recording. You can only move to the next part once you’ve finished recording.

If you would like to finish recording and go to the next part, you can do this by sending a MIDI message to the Aeros to stop recording and advance at the same time, which you can achieve using the MIDI Maestro.

The reason the Aeros doesn’t move to the next part is that it is currently in auto quantized mode. If you’d like to transition to the next part during the first recording, please consider using quantized or free mode.

I apologize for the inaccuracy in my previous email. Currently, it is not possible to stop the first recording and transition to the next part at the same time with the MIDI Maestro, as the Aeros needs time to calculate the BPM in auto-quantized mode.

Erm… Why?

Why can’t it do it in auto quantized mode? When the recording ends, auto-quantized mode becomes quantized… So if it works in quantized mode it can, in principle, work in auto quantized mode.

I can press “play” to end the recording. I can then press “next part” to move to new part. Just do both those things in response to the button push that currently does nothing.

If it’s hard to code, fine. Say that. And put it on the to-do list. Then in the meantime at least grey the buttons out so that it doesn’t look like it’s going to work.

If you would like to see this feature implemented, please post a feature request on the forum under the feature requests category.

If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out!

I think it’s safe to assume that my posting it is an indication I would like the “feature” implemented.

In which case, you can certainly feel free to move this thread to whatever categorisation suits your internal procedures.
