@JFairweather yes, but it is undeniably built on the Bo-Diddley beat!
It’s actually by Charles Hardin and Norman Petty. But indeed Buddy Holly deserves a lot of credit for making it famous. Cheers!

BTW, I knew Norm Petty. We spoke a good number of times. He had a studio in Clovis and used to come to our studio in Amarillo for mastering.
