OPB: How to stay in tempo on a guitar intro without drums?

Boy, I’m feeling the hours of frustration of all the other posters and trying not to let it get to me too. After 30 plus years of midi and hardware sound modules I’m not understanding what it is that I’m doing wrong.
This is such a real time waster when I’m wanting to get it right from the start
I understand the Bass parts and transposing the bass into a correct layer.
I even strip out all the CC commands to keep the channel 10 clean.
But none of these drums will play from the count in … none of my midis will. Even this one (drums only). Can you give a look and comment?

Rather than get frustrated, just chalk it up to the learning curve for both your DAW and the BeatBuddy Manager (BBM).

Here’s what I observed:

  • F1 and B1 tom notes will not sound unless you adjust or map them to the toms available in the BB drum set
    • to F1 you should add 2 semitones (becomes G1)
    • to B1 you should subtract 2 semitones (becomes A1)
  • for whatever reason, the BBM doesn’t like empty space at the beginning of a MIDI file in a song. I trimmed the beginning of your file and then added a velocity 1 note at the very beginning and this is most likely why you were not hearing the 4-hit count-in.

To illustrate my points, I provided before and after screen shots, the edited MIDI file (After.mid) and the BB song.

Oh, and the same principle will apply to The Weight. Give it a try and see.
