RC5 & Beat Buddy

Hi all,

I need some help as I am pulling my hair out.

I am trying to midi link my BB with the RC5 with the BB being the master.

I have followed all the videos on you tube, followed the instructions to the letter.

I have checked I have the right leads etc.

Nothing works.

One video i saw showed that when you pressed the temp button the word Mids sync came up but I only see the temp.

Please help folks as I am totally lost.

Ian

I just tried syncing my BB to an RC-500. It worked without doing anything other than connecting the cables.

Be sure the MIDI to TRS cable is a ‘Type A’. A ‘Type B’ will not work. I got a couple from Sweetwater that do work.

BB - Settings>Main Pedal>MIDI Settings>MIDI-OUT>Sync . Select how/when you want MIDI sync to be sent.

The RC-500 I haven’t fully figured out all the settings, but (RC5 may be slightly different, but close) Menu button>Setup>MIDI>Sync Clock>Auto

I had no idea that 5here is a type A and B. I bought one from Amazon but it must be wrong.

I’ve bought another which is a boss one that I hope works.

Thank you for replying.

Ian

The one shown in your link is a female and my BB breakout cable needs a make.

I truly am lost.

I hope the Boss male one is right.

Ian

I have a male to male MIDI cable between the BB breakout cable to the type A cable from Sweetwater. I’m guessing you have the BOSS branded type A cable?

It is arriving Monday so I hope it is the right thing.

I missed one setting in the RC5, ‘Sync Start’ that could inhibit syncing. Screenshot from the RC5 manual. Settings circled in red are the choices you would want to sync from the BB.
I learned a bit more about my RC-500 from your question. Thanks!!

I know this is an old thread but …

In live performances, I start the BB, and then while I’m comping behind the singer, loop my chordal playing, so that I can solo over the chords during the song. I’ll usually stop the loop and keep accompanying it, and then solo over the loop later on. This means the BB isn’t ever stopped and started; it keeps playing throughout. Presently, getting the drum and the loop to sync is dependent on the accuracy of my matching the loop restart to the beginning of a BB measure. Which isn’t guaranteed, to say the least

If I connect the pedals, will the BB’s Midi clock synchronize my looped section once I stop the record, even if I don’t restart the drum machine? Or would I have to stop and restart it to get it to synch my looped section once? And, any suggested settings to accomplish this?

thanks

There is an option in the BeatBuddy MIDI settings to send clock information even if the song is stopped. If you need help setting this up, feel free to email support@singularsound.com. Thanks!
