Struggling w/ BB2 and Aeros

Didn’t know whether to put this in the Aeros forum or BB2. Trying both. Got a beat buddy 2 over the weekend and I’m really struggling to get it to work with the Aeros. In fact, the Aeros is no longer working at all!

I’ve control my Aeros with an MC8 and it has worked great for years. No issues.

I have the midi out on the BB2 as the start of my midi chain and now ALL midi on the Aeros has completely stopped working. Nothing happens.

As a test, if I unplug the midi cable from the BB2 OUT, midi CCs sent thru the mc8 immediately stars working again on the Aeros. But then the minute I reconnect the cable ot the midi out on the BB2 the Aeros won’t respond.

I am sure this is user error, but am completely stumped and would really appreciate any help.

Here’s what I can share:

Midi chain: MC3 > beat buddy 2 > MC8 > pedalboard > Aeros

^ The reason I use this setup with two foot controllers is to always have the BB controls available on the fly, vs having them buried in a bank on the MC8.

Midi is getting to the Aeros fine: Aeros is receiving and responding to clock form the BB2, and I know the Aeros is receiving cc/pc commands since midi ccs are working fine on other gear that come after the Aeros in my midi chain.

BB2

  • Channel: 15

  • Output Type: Out

  • Sync: always on

  • Start: main beat

  • Stop: pause and end

  • Next part/cc102: disabled, bc I read that this can interfere, but it didn’t work either way

Aeros

  • Channel: 15 (I read that having the two the same channel is optimal. Not sure if this is the case. But, things weren’t working when they were on different channels either.

  • Set to “Receiver”

  • Start: “Playback”

  • Midi FILTER menu - I have start, stop, clock and PC all ON. I have filter midi cc OFF (perhaps this is the problem? I aim not at home to check now)

MC8

  • Midi THRU is turned on for the 5-DIN port, which is what goes out to the Aeros

Set the output type to merge in your BeatBuddy 2, this is the source of your issues

Output type set to out means nothing coming in will go out!

I appreciate the quick response!

I will try that. I can see how that will at least solve part of my issue.

But I think it still doesn’t explain another part.

The MC8 that controls the Aeros sits between the BB2 and the Aeros:

Midi chain: MC3 (to control BB2) > beat buddy 2 > MC8 (to control my board+aeros) > pedalboard > Aeros

I get that the change you are recommending will make it so CCs on the MC3 that control things like part changes on the BB2 should now make it to the Aeros. But what about all the Aeros CC’s I have set up on the MC8? I have used the MC8 to control almost everything on the Aeros - menus, etc. One of those work anymore when midi is coming out of the BB2.

If you have the filter on it will filter things, you want the filters off unless you want to ignore those commands

What is the specific issue you’re having with Aeros?

Cool. I will try turning the filters off on the Aeros when I get home.

Those were off to begin with though and I toggled them in an effort to get it to work (admittedly just trying anything).

The fundamental issue I’m facing is what I described initially. MIDI on the Aeros works fine without the BB2. the minute the BB2 is also in the midi chain not a single midi CC coming out of the MC8 to the aeros responds - no matter what it is (menu stuff, song select, record, etc).

I have no doubt the problem is me, I just don’t know what it is. =)
