Whatever happened to the AutoPilot thing?

Been away for a while, but thought I’d re-login to see what’s new.

Just wondering about the Autopilot idea, and if any further development has been undertaken?

That auto pilot ship has sailed, no further action will be taken, only new development is the BBMO (beatbuddy manager online) developed by Andrew, and happily accepted by Singular Sound and under further development and maintenance by the Singular sound team.

Are you sure? I mean that what I have read from this forum is that the reason why autopilot wasn’t released previously was because BBM was a dead end

So now that BBMO has replaced BBM and we have seen even updates (many bugs yes, but they say most of them have been just fixed) so why couldn’t SS make the autopilot update? :relieved:

I mean that wasn’t the autopilot functional in BB at some point? Just that the working manager was missing

Anyway, I don’t think SS is going to announce anything official about autopilot before it’s working  That future-feature-announcement-ship has sailed :face_with_peeking_eye:

There were issues with the coding in BBM which made updating or adding features difficult. Perhaps BBMO has less of these limitations. Methinks, which is always dangerous that BBMO could be modified to include Autopilot. I’ll send my thoughts to @BrennanSingularSound .

Thanks - that would be appreciated!

I’m perhaps not fluent enough in English but do you mean that you think SS is going to/should add the autopilot? :upside_down_face: Or that trying to add it would be dangerous?

At this stage and with my knowledge both are very valid opinions :face_with_peeking_eye:

Personally I don’t dare to dream about autopilot, I’m not even sure if I want it that way or if I prefer my “autopilot” using MobileSheets :yum: You see, MobileSheets allows me to program buttons to each song that I can press using MM, which allows similar feature as what autopilot would but I need to still do a bit of pedal action for transition to happen

I was trying to be humorous. I was saying when i think, dangerous things can happen. I do believe that it is unlikely that we will see autopilot capabilities added to the BB. If i am correct, it would require changes to the song data structure along with changing BBMO. But, I’ll still write up my thoughts and submit them to Brennan.

I couldn’t quite remember what ‘AutoPilot’ was, so I did a search to refresh my memory.

Not something I’d likely use. Would AutoPilot be similar to taking the MIDI songs parts (intro, verse, chorus, fills, etc) and simply stringing then together in a DAW and then exporting what was assembled as a one press song? Or similar/same as what one can do in Toontrack EZDrummer stringing MIDI parts together?
If AutoPilot would require a firmware change to the BB I don’t envision SS pursuing this. Perhaps a separate app to build out complete songs from MIDI parts to create one press songs would be an easier option rather than trying to implement it into BBMO(?).

The original intent was to be able to re-order the various parts of a multi-part (default content) beat into any sequence using the BeatBuddy Manager (BBM) and then exporting or synchronizing it with the BeatBuddy (BB) pedal. A DAW would not be needed as everything could be set up within the BBM.

The BBM or pedal would play that re-ordered sequence with no user interaction other than a tap to start and double-tap to end the beat. This would eliminate or reduce the tap-dancing on the pedal to advance through a multi-part beat.

Would it be closer to a one-press song? Probably however, I don’t believe there was any intention of supporting existing one-press songs. That’s never stopped users from coming up with some pretty creative hacks (such as multi-instrument one-press songs).

The neat thing about it was to be able to repeat a drum fill or transition x times. The early BBM and BB autopilot betas were promising however Singular Sound probably determined that it would be a smarter investment of money and time to fix the bugs and have a stable BBM platform before adding new capabilities.

The only reason I bought the BB was because they were advertising that autopilot was coming soon.

Autopilot- COMING SOON

With a single press, the BeatBuddy will play a song in its entirety while still allowing you to interact with it as usual.

Of course, it never happened. I don’t use BBMO, I just don’t like it at all. So, when I do use the BB, I still use the old BBM. TBH I don’t use the BB much because of this and have even thought of getting rid of it.

The only reason I’ve kept it all these years is because of hope that eventually they would make good on their word, but I think we all know that’s very unlikely. It’s a shame because the pedal is good and it sounds great, but I play covers, and I don’t do looping. So, I find it a pain to use TBH, when I have used it it’s with some of the OP songs made by the community. When I bought it, I also bought the complete songs library, but that was a waste of money too.

I keep hoping a third-party company will make something similar but with decent software and the ability to play the songs from start to finish like the autopilot would have done, but as it’s not happened it’s probably because there’s not enough money in doing it.

So, when I’m doing a solo gig I’m still using simple drum and base backing tracks, and the BB sits on the shelf!

Also… A release of a fresh and improved BBM was presumably close to release, but that never happened and instead we got BBMO. I’ve played with BBMO, but go back to BBM as it does what I need adequately. I have doubts we’ll see any further developments of functionality for BB.
