Why won't my MIDI cable fit!!!?!!?!??!

Hi guys. Been playing guitar for 20 years but have never used any type of MIDI connection. I purchased a MIDI cable and it’s too big for the BB. First, is there a special name for the smaller typed of MIDI connection? Also, has anyone ever seen an adapter which converts the large sized one to the smaller sized one? Thanks for any help. Getting a bit frustrated. :x
