BB2 Online manager - when will it be ready?

EG, when opening it online, there are zero options for Autopilot, as indicated by other threads here. In fact I can see no difference between the BBMO I was using many months ago, and the one I re-loaded just now!

I would have thought the online editor would auto update… is there another version somewhere with a different link?

It will be available as a beta when the BeatBuddy 2 is launched, which will be very soon!

You should not use the BBMO in v1.5.6 with the BeatBuddy 2 content, the BeatBuddy 2 content is not supported by version 1.5.6

Thanks for the question

So am I sitting on some expensive hardware until you get around to upgrading the BBMO or is it only some content that won’t work right?

We apologize for the inconvenience but you cannot edit content without the BBMO on the new version, this will be available very soon

If you put your BeatBuddy 1 SD card directly into the BB2 it will autoformat your existing content, however to add existing content to the BeatBuddy 2 content, you will need the BBMO 2.0.x

Thank you for your feedback

thanks Brennan. That’s fine!

Received my BB2 yesterday! I had no idea that inserting my SD card from my existing BB would “…autoformat my existing content” on the card. This is not noted/called out in any documentation (is it?).

So, in my excitement, I setup and plugged in my my new BB2 and swapped the SD card into it. I have a gig coming up in a week, and now am unable to edit/add songs to the unit, since my SD card will now not work with the current BBMO version. And even if the new BBMO launches in the next week, it’ll be a Beta version, so will potentially have some issues. Guess I’m stuck waiting? Any other options?

Do you have any backup of the original BB project saved on your computer? You could work from/edit that and then save it to another SD card in the original BB format.

I do have a back-up from a few weeks ago, but it doesn’t have the last 1/2 dozen songs I’ve added since that last backup. Just seems like poor planning to have the new units getting into people’s hands and then not having the editor available (even in Beta), and not making it abundantly clear that you shouldn’t swap your SD card since the editor is not yet available (and there’s no confirmed date for its launch other than “soon”).

Another thing to consider for anyone that gigs with BeatBuddy (which I do). I have a spare BeatBuddy (usually kept in the car)…just in case the one on my pedalboard breaks (have had this issue with a prior BeatBuddy). Now, since the card is formatted for BB2…will it not work in my older, spare BB? (I know that AutoPilot won’t work). Hopefully not an issue, since the BB2 is brand new (and seems well built)…but as a gigging performer, I need to know I have a backup option in the event something happens during a show. I’d be hard pressed to spend another $500+ just to have a spare BB2. I also don’t want to have to manage two different SD cards to simultaneously have the same songs.

Good points! My understanding is that the content of an SD card from the OG BB will be reformatted to work with BB2 the first time it is inserted into it and thereafter that SD card will no longer be backward compatible with the OG BB. So yes, at this point it appears you will need to make duplicate copies of your projects on separate SD cards in OG BB and BB2 formats if you want to have a backup.

I wonder if the BB(original) SD card was ‘locked’ when inserted into the BB2 if it would still work and not be auto formatted for BB2 functionality(?)

I’m confused. I’ve been moving my SD card back and forth between my BB1 and BB2 and I haven’t had any problems with them reading each other. I even added a drum set using the BBMO and it still works fine in both.

I was able to play with autopilot in the beta, and it works pretty well. I took some of the old Vol1 songs and set them up to autopilot and played on the BB2. The feature is simple enough, just say how many bars of something you want. It wasn’t too much of pain. Only hard part for some of the songs was working out which part is what. For fills, you just specify what bar you want to play at. I haven’t seen a manual, so I’m not sure of all the things it does.

EDIT: For parts that are more the one bar, the autopilot seems to only play per bar, so if you have a part that is 6 bars, you’d have to tell autopilot to play for 6 bars. Also, I can’t see a way of disabling a part or skipping one. Putting 0 for “Play for” throws an error. Also, i kind of expected to pick a target for a part. I do this in my patchwork autopilot in the daw where I can trigger where I want to go after playing. Is it possible to get the option to say play part 1, then part 2, then go back to part 1? Is it possible now and I’m not seeing it?

There is a lot of legacy content, and I can imagine the community wanting to share autopilot settings so we can get things converted. Having a feature to export/import those settings would be nice so we can divide and conquer. EDIT: Confirmed the export/import of a song retains the autopilot settings. Ignore this.

The display on the BB2 shows all the measures and scrolls them across the screen. There are colors for the different type of measures, such as fill, transition, etc. Just the song name shows though, and not the part names.

Dont know if its possible with this fancy new hardware, but it’d be nice to be able to set the text on the screen for the parts, and to set the color of the parts. It’d give a nice visual representation of where you are in a song instead of remembering what the part number of the song is. Just a glance at the screen would give you an idea of whats up next and where you are. Feature request.

I did get a freeze updating the SD card. I closed the browser and tried again. Luckily I saved everything I was doing before hand. The autosize of the midi window wasn’t working if there is one. I had to maximize and minimize to be able to get it to fill the window. Dragging the window up to see more of the midi also doesn’t change the size of the contained editor.

I’m excited for the possibilities. Thanks for getting the beta out so we can play with our BB2s. Keep up the good work!

This is fine for your old bb1 content. BB2 content needs the new editor to be edited.
