Just got my new BB2 and it appears DOA. Inserted SD card, powered with included power supply and nothing happens. Tried my Strymon Zuma which is 9v 500ma so proper specs and nothing. Blank screen, no sound…well there is a weird clicking but it’s not drums or musical….
Totally seperated from chain just BB2 into amp and same. Amp on or off, same thing.
It’s just dead on arrival! Is there a reset or something? I can’t even find a phone number for Singular Sound…
Bummed out….
EDIT! Triple checked everything and my pedal train is working perfectly, no issues with power supply or connections…
I see the problem…made in china! Typical! china has the ability to make outstanding products but has ZERO concern and absolutely will salt shipments with duds….which I seem to have received…
The recovery process requires me to go buy a new SD card but sadly no stores that sell electronics nearby….
Use the SD card that came with it. You can copy the content from the SD card to a folder on your desktop and use the card instead of buying a new one. If you’re able to restore your BB2 to an operational state, you can then restore the card to a 4Gb size and copy the contents from your desktop folder to the card. Worth a shot.
Thanks, I thought about that but I’m concerned it may limit my return options so I’ll make some calls in the morning.
I’m kinda surprised Singular Sound has been advertising so heavy on this yet has phone support. New products are gonna have some issues and you’d think they want to get on top of them.
Yes, we definitely want to be on top of every issue! Please send us an email at support@singularsound.com and we’ll help you resolve it as soon as possible.
As a first troubleshooting step, I recommend checking with the original power supply, as the issue may be related to that. Let’s continue the conversation via email so that, if your unit needs to be replaced, I can provide you with the next steps.
You guys REALLY need a phone number at least temporarily for these new products. That’s half the disappointment for me, the lack of a live person to try to work this out with.
I work 50 hour weeks and would like to resolve quickly not via a series of emails.
At least include a phone number in the box and have some techs at hand if you don’t want to advertise such contact……
I would believe if there was a phone number and you called, ‘ At the tone please leave a short message as to your reason for the call and we will get back to you.’.
I’m guessing most of the ‘staff’ you see respond here may have regular day jobs probably not related to SS and answering a call wouldn’t be feasible for that reason.
Perhaps with an email a call could be scheduled for a specific time slot with a tech(?)
I seem to have “solved” the issue! I’m betting it’s the Strymon Zuma power supply which does provide a clean 9v 500ma BUT …..well here’s in in Strymon’s words below. SO if you want to try BB2 with a Zuma be aware of this.Maybe SS can address in a firmware update:
From Strymon:
”Our power supplies ramp up power when a pedal is connected (which is proper engineering practice to avoid shorts or overloads as a form of brownout protection). Some digital pedals (or digitally controlled analog pedals) do not have a reset/watchdog timer on their MCU’s. This means that even though the power does come up to the proper level, they do not see the power they want immediately upon connection, and decide not to power up.”
This doesn’t solve the other issues of the SD card either being read or not so still some what of a dud.
Hopefully this can save others from the hassle as Strymon power supplies are common and robust and not usually suspected of causing issues.
This is actually a common issue with heavier draw pedals and the Strymon Zuma (as well as a few other). The “ramp up” will eventually power the device, but make it buggy.
Two takeaways: yes, Strymon PSUs have a power ramp up challenge that affects some Singular Sound products. Many forum users previously reported this Aeros Firmware 5.0.x - #274 by persist affecting their Aeros.
As Support has stated, for optimal performance use the PSU that came with your BB2. Make sure the plug is firmly seated.
Good luck and hope you get everything up and running to your satisfaction.
