Disclaimers:

  1. Music is art, it’s interpretive. So right or wrong, good or bad does not exist.
  2. I avoid filling song requests for BeatBuddy users that are getting paid for performing (if you get paid for your time, I should too; PM if interested). There are a couple of exceptions: at my discretion, I might fill a new user request (or two); the other being if I really like the song requested.
  3. How many ornaments did we try to hang on the Christmas tree before it collapsed?
  4. Past remains prologue.
  5. Multi-tasking: The art of doing twice as much as you should, half as well as you could.

Hey persist….. is there an easy way to change drum sets (to “Standard” or “Rock”) for this song, as well as others I have found? Your versions of most the songs are awesome! Thanks!

Enge

Thank you for the kind words.

Usually you can change the drum sets using the BeatBuddy Manager Online and they should work. There are some things to keep in mind though:

  • These particular the substitute user-created kits have more drum instruments, hence fewer samples per instrument
  • Because of this, I adjust the velocities lower in the songs using the sub kits for some of the drum instruments, cymbals especially
  • Whereas I don’t adjust the velocities for songs using the default drum set velocities; if and when you use Rock or Standard on a song that’s been crafted to use one of the substitute kits, the drums will not sound the same
  • Another thing to watch out for is that because the sub kits contain drum instruments not found in the default drum sets, you may miss out on some of the rhythm or sounds from the instruments not present in the default kits (hope this made sense). Example: acoustic or bass drum, congas, bongos and several others. So if a kit in one of the above songs uses the acoustic drum and you then change the drum set to Standard or Vintage Ludwig, you won’t hear the acoustic drum. You can however use the BBMO to easily shift the Acoustic drum to the Kick drum position. It still doesn’t solve the issue with the velocities that I might have changed; if the song uses bongos, they aren’t in the default drum sets.

If I’ve missed the point of your question, please let me know and I’ll be happy to clarify.

If I can get to a desktop sometime tomorrow, I’ll take a look at the song and give you a better answer as to whether or not changing to Rock or Standard will work with minimal change. Keep in mind that it will only answer your question for this song.

UPDATE TO MY REPLY:
Here’s screen shots from the DOP song posted above. The first one shows the drum instruments in the SUB-Standard Pro Plain kit.

This next one shows what would happen if I used the Standard kit instead. All of the “Unknown” drum instruments reflect what’s not included with the Standard drum set.

If you own the Standard Pro drum set (one of the previously offered premium kits), you could use it with the aforementioned issues with lowered velocities.
