Issues with my Maestro

I purchased a brand new MIDI Maestro.

After the very first power‑on, the device immediately displayed “EEPROM INVALID”.

Through online research, I learned that I was apparently required to first update the firmware and then update the default modes in order for the device to function.

Honestly, this was already very surprising — a brand new device that does not work out of the box after first startup.

The process became even more frustrating from there:

• Using iOS 26.4.1, I was unable to perform either the firmware update or the default mode update via the mobile app.

• After several hours of trial and error and researching online, I eventually found the PC Update Tool.

• With the PC Update Tool, I was finally able to complete the firmware update successfully. The firmware flash finished without errors.

However, I am now completely blocked at the next step.

On IOS 26.4.1 the app crashes immediately, when I try to install the Default Mode update.

On Android 12 (tested with multiple app versions, including older ones), the Default Mode update consistently fails with the message:

“could not download latest default mode information”

What I have already tested:

- IOS 26.4.1

- Android 12 device

- Multiple app versions (including downgraded versions)

- Bluetooth permissions enabled

- Location permissions enabled

- Mobile data and hotspot (no Wi‑Fi router involved)

- Fresh app installs

- Stable BLE connection to the device

The error occurs before any data transfer to the device, which strongly suggests a server‑side issue with downloading the Default Modes.

As a result, the MIDI Maestro still shows “EEPROM INVALID” and remains unusable, despite the firmware being successfully installed.

At this point, I have a brand new device that cannot be initialized, not because of user error or connection issues, but because the Default Modes cannot be downloaded.

Could you please:

- Check the backend/server status for the Default Mode download

- Or provide an offline/manual way to restore the Default Modes

- Or advise how this device can be brought into a usable state

Thank you for your support. I would really appreciate a clear solution to get this new device working.

It should have worked right out of the box.

Have not seen this message before. If you have anti-virus installed on your iPhone, please check that your anti-virus is not blocking the connection. Same goes if you are using a VPN, try disabling the VPN and you can turn it back on after attempting the update. I just tried with my iPhone and it updates the Default Modes.

Sorry you are having so much trouble. If you have not tried this, please try.

After updating the firmware, turn the MIDI Maestro off and then back on. Now try to update the Default Modes. Turn the Maestro power off and on again.

Does it work now? If it doesn’t, delete the Singular Sound MIDI Maestro app from your iPhone or iPad. Reinstall the Maestro app to your device and try again to update the Default Modes.

Please let us know how you get it working. If you’re still unable to get it to work, please contact Support, support@singularsound.com for help.

did everything you suggested to me before. no success

I added a couple of more steps for A-V and VPN.

Thank you very much for trying to help me. I’ve now disabled the VPN as well, and I’ve scoured the internet and tried every tip and trick I could find. I’ve been at this for hours now. I haven’t heard back from support yet. It might be worth trying to install the standard update packages using local copies rather than via the internet. I’ve heard that your support team has offered something like this before. I’m really hoping for a solution. Otherwise, I’ll unfortunately have to return the device within the return period :frowning:

I’ve done it! Your support team told me that Singular had been experiencing server issues. They were back online this morning, and I was able to successfully download and install the Default Mode update. I’m so relieved! There still seem to be issues with iOS, though. So I’m glad I still had an old Android phone that belonged to my son. Thanks for the support!

Thank you for the update, and we’re really glad to hear you were able to download and install the Default Mode successfully.

Indeed, we were experiencing a server issue, but this has now been fully resolved, so everything should work as expected again.

If you would like to use your MIDI Maestro with an iPhone running iOS 26, please make sure to update the firmware following this post. Once updated, it should work as expected.

If you have any further questions or encounter any further issues, feel free to reach out anytime at support@singularsound.com.

Firmware 1.1.11 still doesn’t work on iOS 26.4.1 either. It crashes, and transferring data to the device doesn’t work. It’s still pretty buggy. I’ll carry on using my old Android device for now. Is there a way to transfer the settings to the iPhone later, when the ios issue is fixed? A sort of backup function to restore a previous state? That would be useful anyway. At the end of the day, a lot of work goes into it, and if the device ever breaks or gets lost…! Can the commands actually be saved under different names so you don’t always have to recreate them from scratch??

If you’re experiencing issues with the latest firmware on iOS, could you please send us your exact iOS version along with a short video of the issue to support@singularsound.com? This will help us reproduce it on our end so the dev team can properly investigate and address it.

Regarding your question—yes, you can have several custom modes with different names.

If you open My Custom Modes in the MIDI Maestro app, you’ll see an upload option (the upward-facing arrow) next to each custom mode. Once uploaded, you’ll be able to download them on another device by selecting Browse Custom Modes under the Online section in the menu.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
