Playlist Export/Import Feature

Since there is a limit on the number of Playlists we can have on Beatbuddy, is it possible to allow us to export a playlist to my computer and re-import it later if needed? I play a lot of gigs with a variety of different playlists and once I hit folder limit I have to rebuild from scratch. If I could save under the playlist name and recall it, that would be awesome!

Thanks for all y’all do!

There isn’t a way to export/import a playlist.

But it’s quite easy to do it yourself.

On the SD card you’ll find a PLAYLISTS folder. In that folder is a config.csv file which contains the playlist file and name, like:

1.csv,Playlist A
2.csv,Playlist B

To save Playlist B, save the 2.csv file from the PLAYLISTS folder.

If you later want to replace the third playlist with your saved Playlist B, rename your backed up playlist from 2.csv to 3.csv, copy it into the PLAYLISTS folder (and rename the playlist name).

NOTES:

  • You are playing with the internal files of the BeatBuddy, but these are the safest to work with.
  • Your playlist files (2.csv) point to song files as they are saved on the BeatBuddy, if you change songs (remove or move between folders) then your saved playlist will no longer work.
  • Make sure you have a backup of the PLAYLISTS folder (better, the whole SD card) before you play around with this.

I have messed around with those (.csv) files a little before the playlist feature was updated late last year, and I agree that will be a workaround that’s usable. I was hoping for more of an “all through BBMO” behind the scenes situation. However, if that’s not possible or at least in the meantime, I’ll implment your suggestion. I appreciate you taking the time to explain it and remind me of the possibility.

Rock on!

Hopefully SS will consider this as part of BBMO (Mabye they need an export Playlist like export Song Folder)

yes exactly!

Thank you for posting your request! I’ve forwarded it to the DEV team for consideration.

In the meantime, a possible workaround is to create a new folder instead of a playlist, duplicate the songs you use, and move them into that folder, you can then export that folder as needed.

That is a workaround but requires duplicate songs, which I try to avoid.

I like having the “folders” and playlist separate because if I change a song for any reason, that change updates to every playlist where that song is whereas folders, I’d have to overwrite and remember every folder where that song exists.

Additionally, there is still a problem scrolling to regular non playlist folders and selecting and playing a song with the BB2 and an external footswitch…works fine in playlists but can’t play a song without bending down and pressing the “tap” button within a folder. I appreciate the idea; it just wouldn’t be beneficial to my workflow.

Thank you for the clarification!

You can hold down the right main button on the BeatBuddy 2 to open a song once it’s highlighted. If this isn’t working as expected, please make sure your firmware is up to date. If the issue persists, you can post a separate bug report on the forum or send the details to support@singularsound.com. Thank you!

I also remember you mentioned that you would like to use the playlists feature instead of creating a new folder. I’m sharing this information in case it’s helpful to anyone else who comes across this post.

I think because I have both switches set to operate as main pedal since it’s easy during performance to hit the wrong button, that may not work. I have the latest firmware.

What puzzles me is why I can select songs in a Playlist folder, navigate completely from my feet, but not from a regular folder. Is that correct behavior? Is there a setting on Main button 2 that will allow it to act like the master pedal except when I need to play a song from a folder? But once again, why can I operate everything from my feet within playlists, move in and out of different playlists AND select a song to play, but I can’t do that if I go into BB2 Folder? Shouldn’t the navigation work the same?

Using both buttons as the main pedal isn’t something that’s designed or intended. To achieve the setup you want, I recommend restoring the default settings on your BeatBuddy 2 and using a Footswitch like the Superswitch or Footswitch+ as your main pedal. This way, you can keep the original function of the right main switch on the BeatBuddy 2.

Regarding your previous report about the playlist function, that has been sent to the dev team for investigation. Any updates will be posted to your original forum post (below).

I have went to firing midi commands from Songbook Pro to pull up songs so this isn’t as big an issue now. I just thought it was weird that navigation in a folder was different than in a playlist which both “appear” similar as folders on the BB2 unit. I kind of miss the 1 big can’t-miss pedal on the BB1 since I’m doing a lot of things at the mic and I didn’t have to rely on a tighter area to targe with my foot. Oddly, I could navigate playlists and folders all with my momentary pedal and the one BB1 pedal fine, so just seems weird I can’t do that on BB2 without adding another pedal or button to the equation.

Anyway, I appreciate your attention to the matter. It’s not a pressing issue for me; just thought it might be a bug.
