Aeros firmware 2.17.x

Hey just tried downloading from WiFi while on Beta 2.17.6 (link provided at top) and it worked smoothly, could you try without having the SD card in? The SD card doesn’t have any aeros.bin files on it when you attempt this does it?

BTW latest firmware is live on WiFi!! :tada:

Removed sd card and unit updated wirelessly with no issues.
No .bin file on the sd card that I know of… last one in there was the previous beta.

Looks like a huge update! I’m excited! Props to the devs!

Great, thanks, David.

This version appears to have decided that one of my previously recorded songs is freeform. Any way to change that?

Also, how do we set freeform versus set time signature for a new song?

Some of the old songs have the correct name in the menu but a previous (always the first before editing) version of the name when they are selected.

Finally a request: Could we please have a report somewhere on the screen that indicates how full the Aeros’s and the card’s memories are?

Hi @Euan – you previously recorded a song in quantized mode and now it’s in freeform?? That is very strange… do you remember which firmware version you were using when you recorded that song?

For new songs, just scroll down the new song screen (or edit song screen, if you haven’t recorded anything yet) and choose Quantize to Measure “off” if you want freeform. With this Quantize setting on, you can choose a time signature and BPM.

We plan to include the memory info display feature you requested, hopefully in the next update.

The re-ordering of songs to place the last used song to the top of the list is bizarre, unintuitive and at times confusing. Why not keep alphabetical order, but place the cursor on the last used song if that’s what someone wanted?

It was one of the first songs I recorded, and my machine was one of the first delivered. It seems that once the machine decided it was freeform it is forever set as freeform. It would be nice to be able to correct this.

An alternative would be to make the re-ordering thing customisable. New users mostly won’t want it and it will confuse them. Make the default strict alphabetical order.

Sorting by last used becomes very helpful as you add lots of quick songs with the default names (and want to cleanup later)

Definitely both are useful and the ideal is some way to change the sort order between last used and alphabetical would be nice.

Note that you can now Search by Name in the song list. That might help in the meantime.

Hey there, I have to disagree, I prefer the last used song to appear. We can look into giving options, but I don’t think alphabetical will be the default.

Definitely something to consider. Thanks for the tip!

If I would live on a desert island and had only the Aeros to play with, I would prefer to be able to decide myself on the order of the songs, creating actually a playlist. Ordering thus by date modified (as now) or by name (as Euan asks) or by user order/playlist. Once it will all come.

But I live in a big world with a lot of specialised software taking good care of playlists. I’d prefer that your efforts are put in an Aeros MIDI command to choose a song remotely. The internal order of songs is then less relevant .

“Last used” order might be fine if you have only a handful of songs recorded, but when you’re up to 25+ it becomes very difficult and time-consuming to find the one you want with an audience waiting in dead air for you to resume entertaining them.

Sounds like you also would like a playlist and/or folders.

I agree 100% with Euan. I just loaded up 3.0 coming from 2.13 and noticed they changed the way song orders appear. Why? I have many songs and ideas on Aeros and finding them was so easy with it being alphabetized. I even did a test when I first got it way back in October 19’ or something like that. Made a few songs with names out of order intentionally and the Aeros lined them all up alphabetized. It seems like they took a step backwards in implementing the most recent song loaded order. Now finding things is going to be much harder. At least give us a choice to turn on the “Last Loaded Feature” vs. taking away the organized alphabetized method.

Also in having the songs appear alphabetically we can easily create our own setlists before hand by labeling the songs accordingly (though many may not find this worth the effort!). For example: I use the Aeros often in the fashion where I prerecord some things at home then use those as backing tracks when playing live. Anyways, when I consider a song “finished” and suited to be performance ready I can put an “A” in front of the title “A- First Song”; “A- Blah blah” ; So on…
This pushes all of the performance ready songs to the top of the list. Everything below that is just demos or ideas; but even those are organized! It may be crude but at least it’s somewhat of a method to place songs in “folders” if you want to call it that.

I guess the overall summary is to please re-instate the alphabetical order method. Or at least give us that option in the Global Settings.

So far I am overall very happy with the new update. Thanks for all your hard work! I’m looking forward to what comes of the Aeros in the future.

@Euan we discovered and fixed some serious bugs in the memory management of the software in the first units we sent out – this is most likely the source of this problem. Unfortunately, I don’t believe we can fix this. I’m very sorry about that. When we finish building the backing track loading function, it may be possible for you to reload those wav files into a quantized song so you can reconstruct it.

@opus87 a toggle to choose between last loaded song and alphabetical order is a good idea. I’ll put it on our development list. But I can’t give a timeframe for it yet.

We agree that there can be improvements, but it’s really a polish, and like you say we have bigger features/fixes we want to square off that will deeply impact functionality.

I can see your point, still, the same argument could be said that having 50+ songs you don’t want to go to the bottom (or even worse the middle) looking for a song you had just worked on.
We will probably polish menus and the song lists at some point, there’ always room for improvement.

Everybody loves folders

What David said^ We see your point, but it may not be ready for a little time, please stay tuned on this.

With 50+ songs I can at least easily find the last song I worked on if they are in alphabetical order. The same cannot be said for any other song when they are in last used order.

I really appreciate the update, and you are doing a great job, but the toggle is rather urgent if the Aeros is being used live with previously recorded loops, as is evident from some of the user comments.

@DavidPackouz, I can re-record it. So far it’s the only one I’ve found like that. The toggle to re-establish alphabetical order is much more urgent.

Thanks,
Euan
