BBMO BUG: I Hit a Wall of Confusion

I must be doing something wrong!

I’ve been playing seriously for a year now. The BeatBuddy has made it really great, not sure if I would have made a year and counting if not for BB. My songbook that I practice is 60+ songs now.

I don’t have a lot of musical knowledge, never mind drums.

My usual method for adding a song to BeatBuddy:

  • I have a folder/playlist “Jimmy 01” with all my songs.
  • When I want to add a song, I find something close/passable in my existing folder, duplicate it, rename it, drag it to it’s alphabetical spot, customize it, mainly tempo. Maybe replace a few fills that don’t sound right. I sometimes shop around in Blues, Rock, and Ballads, duplicate, drag to Jimmy 01.

I came across my first Reggae song for my songbook, so I headed to the Reggae folder. Reggae 1 sounded fine, I did the duplicate etc stuff, dragged it to Jimmy 01. Fiddled with it in BBMO, saved to card.

When I brought it to the BB, the trouble soon began.

A lot of elements were simply silent. Intro, Part1 Fill2, Part2, Fill 2 and 3, Outro. Missing in Action.

Then I tried exporting Reggae 01, then importing, renaming etc.

Import, same issues. Arrgh.

The original Reggae 01 plays just fine, all elements.

Where am I going astray?

Sounds like a bug with the BBMO  I think there have been reports of similar issues earlier :relieved:

Some of them may have been fixed but sounds like the root cause is still there :face_with_peeking_eye:

Note: If BBMO doesn’t play any sound then you might be doing something wrong but if it’s just BB that doesn’t then it’s BBMO bug

A comment about your process: although you can drag a (duplicate of your) beat from one folder to another, it might be best to use the Move function to your Jimmy 01 folder.

With that out of the way, I’ve tested the process using both Vivaldi and Google Chrome and can confirm that the duplicated and moved beat will not play the Intro or other fills properly on the pedal.

I also tested your process in the BeatBuddy Manager (BBM). The duplicated Reggae 1 beat plays all of the loops and fills on the pedal.

So this seems to be pointing at the BBMO as the culprit (as others have pointed out with some of the Rock beats).

Thanks for providing details. I’m recategorizing this thread as a bug and will let the developers sort it out.

Thank you for reporting this! I’ve forwarded the issue to the development team for further investigation.

This is yet another example of what appears to be a common problem. Hopefully the software gurus can find a solution as it is a bit of a game changer.

Has there been any progress on this? I just had the same problem with the Reggae beats. All fills except the first were silent. And the original in the Reggae folder works fine. it’s the copy in my Songs folder that doesn’t work.

No progress that I know of.
I have a separate SD card with the original content, where the reggae still works. I only have one reggae song in my songbook, so I switch out the card for that song.

On the card with my big songlist, the reggae is all messed up, don’t know what I did.
And the reggae sounds FINE with those files in BBMO!

Wall of Confusion!

There was an update posted by the team yesterday—please see below:

Ball of Confusion:” great song!

mediaman54: I sure would be interested in seeing a YouTube video or two about how folks are actually using these tools to go out and gig as a solo. And I’d like to see the whole process as you outline below: identifying the song, figuring out which beat to use (are there shortcuts?), how you use BBMO to load and sync it up and then to see how you’ve put together your pedalboard. I also have Aeros too, so discussing how the tools work together on the stage and how you use them, would all be very helpful. You could even do other videos on how you put together setlists, etc. In short, I’m encouraging you to be a YouTube influencer on this topic, or alert me to one if you know one. You got a blog? Kev

A new BBMO beta was just released that might resolve the issue you were experiencing. Please give it a try when you can. We recommend creating a new project just for the beta, or backing up your files before using it—just to be safe and avoid any data loss.

How can we tell which version # is in use at bbmo.singularsound.(you-know-what, links not allowed)?

How can we tell if a beta version becomes the current version?

You’ll see an announcement on the forum; the version will update automatically on the bottom of the page so you’ll see a change to the latest version number.
