Duplicating a BeatBuddy (BB) SD card so both cards work the same on separate BBs

Hello, forum, and Daniel. I bought a second Beatbuddy to leave at church. I am able to copy the almost 200 songs from my current Beatbuddy SD card to a new SD card for my 2nd Beatbuddy by FILE, EXPORT PROJECT TO SD CARD.

The “new” (copy) of the SD card works fine in both Beatbuddys but will not advance the Aeros looper to the next song in that folder. The midi mapping is the same on both the original SD card and the copy. (MSB 18, PC 1).

How can I make a duplicate SD card without starting all over again, building 200 songs?

Thank you. Doc

Hello again, CFMD28. Daniel (support) helped me figure out the necessary midi mapping to control my Aeros from my Beatbuddy. And I was able to sync up and advance the next few weeks’ songs.

I bought another BB to leave in church, and it also works well with the BB SD card I have been using since March in my original BB.

I tried to make a spare BB SD card (a clone of BBSD card #1)to use in the 2nd Beatbuddy. I think I am exporting to the clone SD card correctly on BBM, and indeed it works in either BB and transfers the BPM and count in to the Aeros. I can pair it up with any song that I midi map on the Aeros, and it plays fine.

However, the BB or the BB footswitch will not advance from one song to the next on the Aeros.

Any ideas @CFMD28 ?

Hi, Doc. Since this seems to be an entirely new topic, I’ve started a new thread for you. This should make it easier for users to track and reply. Try to avoid glomming on to other user’s threads with dissimilar topics.

I also merged your duplicate post to this thread as well. Appreciate your not repeating posts. Since you’ve asked a specific user for his feedback, I’ve edited your second post to tag him.

Does your original SD card advance the songs on your church pedal and Aeros? If not, you may have a configuration problem so check the signal chain on your church rig.

Have you tried copying and pasting the files from your original SD card to your duplicate card? Make sure you delete the files on your duplicate card before you paste from your original.

You might want to try the BBMO to see if that helps you sort out the problem you’re having advancing the song on the Aeros using your BB remote for switch. Hopefully the MIDI settings on your church pedal match your home pedal. Don’t know if you’d have to do any work with your existing BB songs. This might be a better question asked of Daniel at support@singularsound.com

Hi persist. My original (used since March) BB SD card works fine in both rigs.

If I try to copy and paste files from the original card to a new (duplicate) card, do I start with a new, empty (formatted) SD card or the one that came with my new BB? That new card that came in the BB box (4gig SS) has files on it such as data, DRUMSETS, EFFECTS, PARAMS, SONGS, ECT.

Can I try and copy/paste files from my card to that one? Thanks much. Doc

You can do that and when it prompts you if you want to overwrite all of the files, you can approve the overwrite.

At some point since you are playing at church, you might want to have backup SD cards for both pedals. If you buy them new, you don’t need to format them. Suggest you use 32Gb SDHC class 10 cards (which load the drums and songs faster than the class 4 card that came with your pedals. Use the same process to copy and paste your project from your working SD card to your new cards.

Good morning, persist. I spent most of yesterday trying all the various combinations to get my songs onto a usable SD card. I finally exported a few folders from the BBM that I last rearranged in March. I exported them to my user lib. (The SD card that I made in March from that BBM is the only SD card that will advance songs (BB as master) in my Aeros. I am unable to make a copy of that SD card.)

I then exported those songs from user lib. to my original (2022) Singulard Sound 4 GIG SD card that came with my original BB in 2022. That card works in BB and will sync up to the corresponding guitar track that I have in Aeros. I can start a song with the BB, and if I have that song cued up in Aeros, Aeros will recognise the BPM and all and sync up perfectly. I initiate the song with a single tap on the BB, and the Aeros will play the song with the guitar track that I recorded. Works great! If I manually advance to the next song on Aeros and click the BB footswitch to advance the song on BB, I have a match, and the BB will initiate the song on both the BB and Aeros.

BUT, the BB or the BB footswitch will NOT advance to the next song on the Aeros. It advances fine on the BB, but not on the Aeros. I have to manually advance to the next song in that folder on the Aeros. The midi mapping is the same on both (eg. #8 folder in BB = MSB 7, song #1 in BB = PC 0, song select ON ).

Remember, please, the card I last rearranged in March (my only working card) syncs up perfectly AND advances the Aeros. So I am assuming that the Midi out settings on my BB are correct.

My original problem was that I could not make a copy of that SD card to use with my new (2nd) BB that I leave in church, or just to have a spare. I can make new SD cards that work, but they just won’t advance the songs on Aeros. That problem remains; I can’t make a copy of the March card.

I am using new or formatted San Disc 16gig Ultra SD cards.

I very much appreciate your help. I will also copy this post and send it to Daniel, who has been very helpful. Thank you! Doc

Sorry you’re having so much trouble. Let’s see if we can narrow this down to make it simpler and hopefully work with your church rig.

Which version of Windows or macOS are you using? Based on your answer, I’ll provide some detailed steps tailored to your operating system.

Which version of the BeatBuddy Manager (BBM) are you using and have you tried the BBMO yet?

If you would rather allow Daniel to take over from here, that’s fine but I don’t mind helping as I have some time.

Persist, thanks so much for your help. I am on my desktop running Windows 10 Pro. 8 Gig of Ram. Intel Core i7-4770CPU. 3.40GHz.

The project on the March card (the one that works) was exported from that original (2022) BBM. I have used that BBM version since 2022. I just rearrange it every 3 months to accommodate new songs. and then export to the same SD card (or a new SD card to have a copy). It has worked fine since 2022 and works fine with the Aeros that I just bought. It will advance the songs on both the BB and Aeros with a click of the footswitch.

The card I am trying to “clone” from that March card is the 4 gig SS card that came in the box with my 2022 Beatbuddy. I just added a few folders from the March BBM. That card syncs with Aeros and will play my guitar parts correctly when initiated by the BB. It just will not advance from one song to another in its folder when I advance the BB with the footswitch. I have to advance the Aeros manually.

are both BB’s on the same firmware?

Hi guys,

This is because the PARAMS folder is not written by BBMO, this needs to be set on the BeatBuddy itself

You have to turn on the midi song select feature to be on, by default it is off

Just enable the outgoing song select setting on the device:
Main Pedal > MIDI Settings > MIDI out > song /folder select and set to either default mode or Aeros mode (reference your other BeatBuddy)

Another way to do this if you have several settings that are not default is to put your new SD on your computer and remove the existing PARAMS folder and swap it for your original SD card’s PARAMS folder

Hope this helps!

The 2022 BB is Firm 4.1.6. The “new” BB (2025?) is 3.9.9.4.

That said, both BBs respond properly to the March SD card and will advance the Aeros. Neither will advance the Aeros with any other SD card.

I will update the firmware on both but video makes it look somewhat complicated.

I did look at BBMO and I might give that a shot but Sunday is comin’ up fast and I need both the BB and the Aeros to work and sync up properly by then.

Hi, did you see my reply? This is not a bug to be worked around you just need to turn on the song select setting on your new BeatBuddy!

Thanks Brennan. I don’t know if it matters, but I’m not using BBMO (yet).

So I compared both SD cards, and there is a difference! The March card ( the one that works in both BBs and does advance the Aeros ) has the song>folder>select option, and it is and has been enabled.

The “new” Sd card that I downloaded from SS and added a few folders, does not have that option! It does have an option that reads: “restore Midi settings.”

So I did that and enabled “restore MIDI settings.” That did not fix the problem.

BTW, the problem is not with the Beatbuddys. They both respond properly to the March SD card and will advance songs on Aeros. I just cannot get another card that will advance the Aeros.

I will now see if I can replace the PARAMS file on the “new” card with the file from the correctly operating March card.

Thank you for your help. Doc

You have to update your new BeatBuddy to 4.1.6

Thanks Brennan. I will watch the video on how to do that now.

That did it! A firmware update was what it needed. Thank you all for your assistance. Singular Sound support is the best!

I will make up some spare cards and ensure they are updated to 4.1.6.

This will help my project of getting guitar parts for 50 songs on Aeros that I can start and advance with my Beatbuddy for when I go out for hand surgery.

Once again, thanks! May God bless you guys and everyone at Singular Sound!

I don’t think you have to update any more cards. Once your pedal firmware has been updated or changed, it will retain that firmware.
