New BeatBuddy Firmware (2.7.0 "The Tempo Update")

Weird… reloaded up the v2.04 f/w and it still loads the last loaded song rather than showing the folders like it used to. Is the last loaded song the normal boot for others here?
I can get used to it, but bothered me more that it’s doing something different that it didn’t do that way prior to the upgrade. I did like having the folders show first, rather than having to back track out of a song to go to a different song when booting up the BB.

My beat buddy aways boots up to the last song played. I haven’t updated yet.

I tested 2.0.4 on several SD cards and each one powers up to the last song that was playing.

I tried a bunch of stuff to try and replicate the boot to folders and I can only think that somehow when I originally did the 2.04 update something didn’t take quite right and the last song wasn’t retained.

There is a folder called PARAMS, which contains two INI files. One defines the firmware used and the footswitch setup and the other retains the last song loaded. Interestingly if I delete the TEMP.INI file from the card the BB will create a new TEMP.INI file and even does so if the card is locked which surprised me. If I make the TEMP.INI a ‘read only’ file the BB creates another TEMP file with an extension like .IN~ .

It’s just a change I’ll have to get used to

Tried to update and I’ve bricked my beat buddy!

Won’t power up. I’ve tried wiping the
memory card and downloading the default files. Deleted the manager and reinstalled.

Manager works, and files are there for the virtual beat buddy on my Mac, but the pedal won’t power up. Tried everything I can find in this forum.

Man, I knew I should have left well enough alone, but I tried the update.

Now I’m stuck, and been at it all afternoon.

Power sources have all checked out, getting power inside the pedal. Won’t boot up.

HELP! Please!

Follow the instructions for the Mac from the link above. If you can’t get it to work, you’ll have to contact support@singularsound.com

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot.

This is from the BB instruction manual, but thought it may be worthwhile putting it here for those that forgot the instructions were there like I did. It should have been included with the first post announcing the f/w update, a link to, or as a ‘readme’ file with the zip download.

FIRMWARE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
• Once you have downloaded the firm ware, unzip the file.
• You will see 5 files: app, app.bin, boot. bin, MLO, and MLO.bin.
• Insert SD Card directly into your
computer.
• Drag the contents of the firmware
folder directly onto the SD Card (the first
window when opening the SD card drive on your computer).
• If you are prompted to skip or replace certain files with identical names, click Replace.
• After the files are transferred,
insert the SD card into your
unplugged BeatBuddy.
• Once the SD card is in, power the
BeatBuddy on. Let the firmware
upgrade take place (~20-30 seconds).

I am surprised that the announcement did not mention the introduction of the cut time and double time options for foot switch buttons. I don’t recall seeing those options prior to upgrading to 2.70. Those features work nicely. Great job to those who made it happen! :grinning:

Wow. Thanks for letting us know. I would’ve missed it otherwise!

You are welcome.

I would be curious if anything else was added in this update. I hope others will take a look around and report back to this thread. I only found them because I wanted to try out the updated tap tempo functionality by assigning tap tempo to the first button on my foot switch. I saw them in the options list.

I am sure it was just an oversight in making the announcements.

I’m super stoked to report Singular Sound support is going above and beyond!
A new special power fix sd card is on the way.
Thanks everybody.

I love when an update gives unintended new features rather than unintended bugs ;).

Fabulous. Especially the tap tempo and immediate start which was something I’d been struggling with as I’d have to tap along and then leave a small gap until the screen had cleared. This is really a great improvement when playing along with others

When making the announcement, I was told these features weren’t fully implemented yet - we planned to mention them next update, but I suppose the cat’s already out of the bag.

Something to note about the double time and half time functionality:

  • Currently, it triggers instantly, but this will be changed to be triggered at the end of the measure, this will make it so that it can sync with other pedals and MIDI devices and will occur in the next update.

I just received my Premium Library SD Card. I inserted it and powered up the BB.

Now I have NO PEDAL OFF/ON!! It is unresponsive!! I connected the external BB footswitch.

It will do a crash sound with the left button, but will NOT start or stop the unit!!

Any ideas to help me fix this??? Right now my BB is DOA with the “new” firmware upgrade whcih came with the Premium Library Card. I even tried the original card and it now does not respond to the foot switch either.

Thank you for your time and I will await your reply.

Does the song still start with the main pedal? It sounds like you might need to rerun the footswitch detector. In settings > footswitch > footswitch detector.

Thinking about it, the firmware upgrade has probably just reset the footswitch settings. The default footswitch actions are pause and accent, not start/stop so it could be that you just need to go back into settings and change it back to your preference.

@rickenbacker4001 I am really sorry that this happened. Please send me an email to support@singularsound.com with your full name and address, and I will send you a card to boot your BeatBuddy back up again.

I got it back up and running!

First, I have to say Singular Sound Support is stellar! Thanks so much, Jay!

Jay sent me a new SD card in the mail. And the unit still did not boot.

Things were desperate. I pleaded with my Buddy to no avail. I threatened and cussed. Nothing.

So I took off the back plate and started in with my multi meter. Power source putting out 9volts. pins on the power jack reading the same. But nothing at the other end of the power supply wires were they are soldered to the board.

I messed around with the wires at that end and, low and behold, she lit up and did the firmware update! Working perfectly now. Turned out to be a hardware issue, probably a cold solder joint. This is an early unit I bought used, serial #0000607.

I’m super impressed that Singular went out of their way to help me out. Thanks again!

And I’m enjoying the added sample beats and demos for the pro kits that came with the firmware update.

That entire library and pro kits SD card is looking mighty tempting.
