Reggae bug is back

Hi,

I formerly had a well known problem with reggae beats : transitions didn’t play. That problem was solved by an update in BBMO (or firmware, or both ? I don’t remember.). There were related posts in the forum.

Well that problem is back. I use Reggae 7, for example, in a song. Transitions don’t play, and intro is not played entirely (miss the last crash). This can be heard in BBMO itself when playing on the virtual pedal.

Any solution ?

BB1 4.1.7 - BBMO v2.0.5 in Opera - MacOS 26.2

Hi. I just tested Reggae 7 and I don’t hear the ending Intro Crash 1 in the Pedal Emulator.

  • I can hear it play when previewing it in the MIDI Editor.
  • I examined the Intro MIDI and Crash 1 is not clearly visible.
  • I lengthened the Crash 1 Cymbal and the New Snare but it did not make a difference.
  • I tried adding Splash 2 to the end of the Intro (in addition to the Crash 1) and it’s audible when previewing but not when playing the Pedal Emulator.

I can hear the Drum Fills but not the Transition Fills when playing the Pedal Emulator.

Support is probably going to ask you for a video recording with audio. You can zip the file and attach it in reply or email it to Support, support@singularsound.com.

That’s it, exactly. Thanks for investigating further, Persist. And the fact you can reproduce it is reassuring, it means it’s not a personal issue.

Waiting for support’s answer

Thank you for reporting the issue.

Could you please check if the same behavior occurs when using the BeatBuddy Manager Online (BBMO) beta version? If it does, would you mind sending us a short video showing the issue to support@singularsound.com, along with a link to this forum post? Once received, I’ll be happy to report it directly to our development team for further investigation.

Hi Daniel, thanks for investigating.

Quick test results :

  • in BBMO beta with the virtual pedal, there’s a little evolution but a strange behavior : I randomly (but very occasionally) get a transition. The intro last crash still can’t be heard.
  • on the actual BB1, sync’d from BBMO beta, nothing has changed : no transition at all

I’ll do the video tomorrow, it’s dinner time here in France !

Hi Daniel,

well, what did not work yesterday works today !

More precisely the behavior of BBMO beta is still the same : no transition, no crash cymbal at the end of the intro.

BUT it works well on the actual pedal, and that is the more important thing ! That’s all I need.

I filmed a little video that I send you, you’ll appreciate my wonderful English speaking

Cheers from France

Thank you for sending the video! I’ve made a report for the dev team and included it.

I just want to chime in here that the fix does not “fix” corrupted files. The files before version 1.5.6 in BBMO were being corrupted and will continue to be corrupted. What you need to do is import a file that was never in contact with older versions of BBMO into the BBMO now, this will properly import the file and stop the issue from ever happening.

There likely is no bug here, most probably the problem is a corrupt file.

Read more here:

Explanation of changes to BBMO in 1.5.6 (still relevant in 2.0.0 or later):

The BeatBuddy Manager Legacy uses a proprietary feature that allows “negative ticks”.

MIDI Ticks are positions in the MIDI file. There are hundreds of ticks in every measure of a MIDI File. Using Negative Ticks on the BeatBuddy Manager allowed a user to have special partial measure behaviors on the BeatBuddy. However, the BBMO was built very differently. Now we have a MIDI File Start Point to set where playback should begin for files, and we don’t make use of negative ticks.

Read more about the MIDI File Start Point in the BeatBuddy Manager Online Manual

This necessary change to the BBMO required a change to how the BeatBuddy works, it will now regard files with a partial measure + a full measure as it always did when creating content using the BeatBuddy Manager Legacy.

As far as we know, this only affects content included in our default content, and most users did not make content using negative ticks. We strongly believe the BBMO’s MIDI File Start Point behavior is overall a great improvement for customers to make their own content easily and effectively.

Version 4.1.7 on the BeatBuddy regards the BBMO’s partial measures the same way that it regarded negative ticks before. This information is not relevant if you are using the BeatBuddy 2 default content on the BeatBuddy 2.

I just downloaded a fresh copy of the Default Content 2.1 backup and I can hear the crash cymbal in Reggae 7 using the BBMO Pedal Emulator.
